10 quid is a bit cheeky when you consider the last time they couldn't even provide proper water stations at various points. i trust the hazards like cyclists on the route and walkers gettiing in the way of runners especially at mile 24 onwards will be rectified.
it's a over rated event and needs to be revamped

What does "10 quid is a bit cheeky" mean? That makes no sense at all in the context of what you said.

i agree,The first man across the line should be the winner of the marathon and not some super team of two elite duo of half marathoners.Half marathoners and relay runners should leave 1 hour after the main bunch.this would prevent the usual messy relay changes of runners, taking up the road trying to see their team mates.A bit of "support" along the way by relay runners watching and not obstructing would add to the occasion.Bicycles should be strictly banned from the course.Water stations need to be reassesd. This is genuinely not a rant and not any kind of "snobbery" to relay runners.its great to see the city centre full of runners at the finish line. Its just a hard marathon to run with so many distractions on the day.

To say over-rated is a bit harsh. Its a great event that is on our door-step and its great not to have to the costs involved of travel and hotels if you want to take on the challange of a marathon.

That said, there is room for improvment...Water stations, Congestion with the relay runners and Cyclists, especially those who accompany their runner friends, all need to be addressed. A clear road closure is the norm accross most marathons, even the Mahon walk should be closed for the few hours. Surely the City Council could arrange this.

Still, I've paid and cant wait to give it a good lash on the day...The Patrick Street finish is brilliant with hopefully my wife and children giving me a good shout of support...

I've run Cork on a number of occasions and I think the relay runners add to the atmosphere along the route. While I agree that the cyclists do need to be looked at, I have never had an issue with the water stops (even in the years where it was extremely hot). The route change has also helped immensely I think and it is just so nice to be able to get out of your own bed and get to the start line without the added costs of staying the night before in a hotel. Well done Cork on what you've put on to date and keep up the improvements.

I too am very grateful that we have a marathon on our doorstep, and will be taking part in the full event for the first time this year. V much looking forward to it :)
I think in terms of the scale of the event, the extra ten euro beyond the march deadline, is fair enough as the organisers need to plan and need to know numbers of participants asap so this doesn't bother me. If everyone decided to enter in the last few wks it would put an enormous amount of pressure on the organisers and affect logistics of the operation. Since the marathon started in Cork, I personally have noticed the number of participants in the local races has increased and this has been a great injection of interest and participation in our sport, I think the relay is a great chance for people to take part in a big running event and give them a positive experience and encourage further participation afterwards.

i wrote the first comment and I do think it does need to revamped. some writers above pointed out improvements that need to be made and the route should include more city running thru the streets. it's not enough to say we have a marathon, arent we lucky!!!!

I was thinking that there could be a better route also so I went and had a look with mapmyrun. If you factor in that the UCH needs road access and that too much hills will stop people from running it, have a look. Its actually that the city is just too small. Post the mapmyrun route if you have a better one but I tried and failed.
