Guest Post: Happy New Year ...by Pat Walsh

 ** Happy New Year **

‘This is my rally cry
I know it's hard, we have to try
This is a battle I must win
To want my share is not a sin’ ….Pink 🎼

Wow, this year has ended in a major deterioration of the whole situation. Was hard to see this a few weeks ago and is forcing a major mental shift on how we are doing and where we are going.

The only certainty is that everything is uncertain.

Plans are being made that will have to be broken.
Hope is in short supply and belief / trust in our leaders and health officials is at an all time low.
January can be a hard time on the roads anyway but this all makes it harder.

But
Nil desperandum, don’t despair.
We have no choice only to drive on.

It may not be as we dreamed or planned. It won’t be easy or pleasant but when you weigh it all up what choice do we have?

Try to keep yourself above water and maybe lift a few with you.
Don’t over anaylse your runs or performance and let the next few months take its own course.

Runners are special people who regularly rise above the mediocrity.
Praise yourself for any run, any exercise, any day you didn’t let the situation get you down.

‘There's not enough rope to tie me down
There's not enough tape to shut this mouth
The stones you throw can make me bleed
But I won't stop until we're free
Wild hearts can't be broken’ …. Pink 🎼

Kindness and compassion are powerful weapons. Friendship and caring can move mountains. Happiness can lift the world.

Use all tools at your disposal to brighten your days and for those nearest and dearest to you. Keep on running and f**k the begrudgers.

Have a Happy New Year, be safe and well.
