At a ceremony today in Cork City, Lizzie Lee of Leevale AC was awarded the Evening Echo Sports Star of the Year.
In 2015, Lizzie had a spectacular year. In September she ran the 5th fastest time ever by an Irish woman when she ran 2 :32:51 in the Berlin Marathon. At the moment, she has the fastest qualifying time of all the Irish women for the Olympics in Rio.
In December, she was part of the Irish Cross Country team that won Bronze in the European Cross Country Championships.
All going well, she should be one of three Irish women heading to the Olympic Marathon in Rio to represent Ireland.
The awards ceremony was sponsored by Newbridge Silverware. Photos from Lizzie's dad GearĂ³id O Laoi HERE (Facebook account required to view)
After the ceremony, Lizzie and her coach Donie Walsh were interviewed by Red FM. Interview (Sat 6th Feb 2016) HERE ...47:30 to 52:40
