Race notice...Mount Oval 6 mile road race - Sun 18th Nov 2012

This Cork BHAA 6 mile road race is coming up on Sunday, the 18th of November 2012 at 11am. Organised in conjunction with the Mount Oval Bar, this one is just to the south-east of the city on nice country roads and is very easy to get to.

Mount Oval is just off the N28 road to Carrigaline. It's very easy to get to from the South Ring Road in Cork City...
It certainly wouldn't be described as an easy 6 mile course as there are a number of hills. I use part of this course a lot on my own training runs for the simple reason that it's reasonably quiet and safe and it's in the countryside. Once the early hill is out of the way, the rest is pretty reasonable. Weather permitting, it should make for a good race.

As with all Cork BHAA races, the entry fee for registered runners is just €5. €8 for the non-reg. As per usual, there will the usual feast afterwards! ;o)

They are also looking for some race stewards if you can help out? Contact Greg Moore at 012 4898162.

On the morning of the race between 9:30 and 10:30am, the Physio Centre will be on hand to give a demo on stretching exercises.

More details in the pre-race preview.

Hi John,
Is it possible to get confirmation of the starting time of this race as last year there was a lot of confusion over whether it was 11am or 11.30am. If memory serves it ended up starting at about 11.15am.

Why on earth does this race have to be on same day as County Intermediate and Masters X Country. Couldnt it be held Sunday the 25th of November or any other free Sundays until Turkey Trot?

Starting time....11am for sure. As long as people get there early and register in plenty of time then it should start on time. The start line is only about 300m from the Mount Oval Bar.

As far as I know, the BHAA had decided on this date since last December. So the question should probably be directed towards the County Board as to why they didn't pick another Sunday.

Is the finish line far from Mount Oval? Will parking be an issue? It's fairly tight around the bar at the best of times!

I've only done 5k before but I would like to enter as it's in my locality. Is the route okay for someone who has only done 5k before?

The start and finish line is very close to Mount Oval.

Parking should not be an issue.

The real question is have you run 6 miles in training before? Or even 5 miles? If you've done those kind of distances recently then you should just look at finishing the race rather than trying to set a fast time. It's a hilly course and it's quite a bit tougher than the usual 5k.
