Results of the Cork BHAA Novartis 5k road race - Wed 3rd Aug 2011

A total of 384 runners turned out for this 5 k road race in Ringaskiddy on Wednesday evening. While it was down on last year, when you look back over the last decade you can see how the numbers attending road races have grown. It is probably safe to say that the number of races has also grown so it's a sign of just popular running is at the moment.

The winner of the mens race in Novartis was John Meade in a time of 16:22. The first woman home was Martina Kiely in 18:12.

The full results can be seen HERE

By the way, there seems to have been a problem with people leaving the chute early at the finish. It might be worth pointing out that when people do this, it causes a lot of hassle for the organisers when they are trying to work out the correct results.

Yes, you're right, people shouldn't leave the chute early but I can't blame them to be honest. It was wet and cold and the line was moving far too slowly. I can't understand why they have to take your name 3 times in the finishing chute. It has been shown clearly that there are much faster ways of doing this (look at the Ballycotton setup), but yet the BHAA continue with this archaic procedure. They are all very nice friendly people but it's becoming a bit of a joke.
