The Senior Track and Field Championships of Ireland will take place on 6th and 7th of August in Morton Stadium, Santry.
From Athletics Ireland......"European Silver medallist Derval O’Rourke (Leevale AC) will compete in the 100m hurdles and will be looking for an impressive ninth title. O’Rourke, a renowned championship athlete is set to compete in the World Track and Field Championships in Daegu later in the month, after achieving the qualification standard when running a seasonal best of 12.84 in Le Chaux De Fonds.
Recent World Youth champion Kate Veale of West Waterford AC will line up in the women’s 5km walk. Veale also recently broke the former World medallist; Gillian O’Sullivan’s Irish Senior 3km walk record which was also a World Youth Best Performance. Olive Loughnane will not be competing as she will stay on her training camp in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Robert Heffernan (Togher AC) who placed fourth in both the 20km and 50km walk at the European Championships last year, will line up in the men’s event against and Colin Griffin (Ballinamore AC)."
