Cork County Board issue correction regarding Ballyhooly 10k race...

ok...there is a bit of a story with this one...

Back on the 1st of August, the Cork County Athletics Board issued a statement saying that the upcoming John Harnett Challenge 10k race in Ballyhooly did not have a race permit and they were advising club runners not to attend.

Basically, someone made a mistake and this is NOT the case. The organisers of that race got a permit through Grange Fermoy AC some time ago. The County Board issued this correction today...

August 3 – John Hartnett Challenge Road Race – Correction and Apology

It has come to Cork County Boards attention that the above event on Sunday, 14th August 2011 DOES have an Athletics Ireland Permit. This was overlooked due to an administrative error by Cork County Board and on behalf of The Board I would like to offer sincere apologies to the organisers of the John Hartnett Challenge Road Race.

I would like to wish the organisers every success in their forthcoming event and I encourage all athletes and clubs to support the John Hartnett Challenge Road Race.

Paddy Buckley

Chairperson
Cork County Athletics Board

Just a note to say that this race was a 9.5 mile Challenge race for the last 2 years. It basically started in Ballyhooly, went up some very hilly roads to the Nagles and finished back in Ballyhooly again. The numbers were small but it was a really good race.

This year, they have changed it to a 10k road race to try and attract more people.
