Race notice...Cork BHAA PTAA 5k - Wed 31st Aug 2011

The next Cork BHAA race is the PTAA 5k in Togher at 7:30pm. Registration is at St.Finbarrs GAA grounds. The course is around the local housing estates and is reasonably flat. Definitely not the most scenic of courses but handy to get to for people in the city.

The scenic aspect of a race has begun to get a bit over rated. In a recent issue of Irish Runner John Walshe of Ballycotton put it really accurately when he described the situation whereby some commercially organised races justify really expensive entry fees on the basis of the pretty scenery along the course.

Last night (amongst other such races) proved how good a race can be without mountains in the back ground or lakes or the seaside or whatever else.

To be honest, I'm running pretty hard I don't have time to look at the scenery. So, it doesn't matter where the race is, as long as the running surface is ok. There was plenty of support from the locals last night which is far more important than any scenery.
