looks like the results are not right in at least the half marathon. kevin wilmot was 4th and Shane O'Rourke was 5th.dont know anymore after that.thanks
Definitely something wrong with the half marathon results alright. Dropped four positions there against my finish line position. Some of the 5.3 mile split times in the top ten look inaccurate.
It was a good day and I had a great time. Well done to the organisers.
a bit of a shambles at the reg desk. massive queues- very disorganised. stewards having to shout at the top of desks to get attention. late start for half mara and when the race started no horn sound or gun. as for the results they look well off. i ran half maras in connemara, dingle, charleville and clon plus cork to cobh 15 mile. the best organised was cork to cobh, next was charleville. the rest all suffered from problems with timing, results or course length. won't be back-shame as the course was excellent
Itaught the whole day was brilliant , even the buzz around the waterfront at 8 am. I did the half marathon and i will be back next year.
Great course and had a brillant time, will definitely be back nxt yr.....congrats to everyone involved!
Hi folks. Thanks for all the feedback. It is only through feedback like this that we can hope to improve on next year. Two points to note ; unfortunately- there were lots of race swappers. Runners who had booked into one race and then ran another- as you can imagine, this is a logistical nightmare and all of the category prizes could not be given out on the day as a result. We hope to have these issues resolved in the coming days. Any enquiries can be directed to Champion Chip Ireland- Glen has vast experience in timing and is very professional.
The second point to note is that no matter how many people are on the desks doing registrations- if 200 people show up at once, there is going to be mayhem! We thought it better to delay race start than to have over 100 people miss the starting horn (there was one at the half and one at the full/mini start) resulting in a huge difference between chip and official times.
Other than these minor glitches, we were delighted with the way the day went and hope to improve on this year in 2012. While it is our intention to continue to accept late entries, we would respectfully request that participants submit entries online prior to race day to avoid late entry costs and long queues which are frustrating for both participants and organisers. ;)
just like to say thanks to all involved with the organisation and running of the event. every one was more than helpful and especially thanks to all who give there support to the runners. four of us came from Armagh and we had a great day.
Ran my first ever marathon yesterday in Clonakilty. Thank you for a fantastic day, it was very well organised with plenty of marshalls, food, water and well wishing spectators. It did start a few minutes late but as is the custom in west cork every one was welcome and no one was turned away even if it meant delaying abit. My splits matached my garmin exactly. Thank you and see you next year
Congratulations to the organisers of the clon run.
The course was absolutely magnificent, I really enjoyed it, the half marathon course was tough, attritional but challenging and my wife and I ran it quicker than last year. I felt the organisation was excellent and the stewarding magnificent. the numbers were up on last year- very impressive and the spirit out on the course was great.
We hope to do it next year.
Just checked the Championchip Ireland website, half marathon results have been updated.
Weather was fab, did the full which was good value, good buzz around the place excellent event. Will be back for a shorter distance next year :)
I thought it was a great day. The atmosphere was superb and everything was brilliantly organised. Even the weather was perfect. I have run a number of marathons including Dublin, Cork and New York and I reckon Clonakilty has something special. It is my number one marathon location and I have no doubt it will go from strength to strength.
hi fiona,
on the point of late entries and delays at desk wouldn't be better not to allow any late entries and post out chips and numbers to pre registered. also send out the bag tags in the post too a la dublin. a few laminated signs in the hall would sort out queues too. just a few thoughts
I did the half and i thought it was great. Brilliant atmosphere and loads of refreshments after. yes there was a que to register but these are small things. Well done to all involved and ill be back next year.
Fine event. The only problem with it though was the confusion at the start. It wasnt very clear where the start of each race was. Even the event website didnt help. I think some people went to wrong start line.
Do you go by Chip time or finish time for the overall prizes?
Very enjoyable again this year.Good quality running top, plenty of post race refreshments, very welcome massage.I would echo other posts though and say that the start points need to be more clearly identified, lot of people wandering around Saturday morning looking for the half start line. Also don't take late entries on the morning of the race.
Prizes are usually determined by position, not chip time.
very enjoyable race. do a number of half marathons each year and this was def my favourite this year. Great buzz, challenging course with a couple of tough hills and very welcome downhill sections to provide much needed relief. Thought the stewards were great and seemed to make an extra effort to be supportive. If there was one thing that could be improved was the small amount of portaloos for the large crowd. we want more portaloos!!! otherwise very enjoyable and a very positive experience
Great event again this year, so few woman did the full marathon, It would be nice to see the results of the ladies seprate from the men, and for the ladies over 35 to have results listed seprate from senior ladies. Again this year not enough toilets on route, maybe you could look at place of toilets on other big marathons to get an idea of what is needed?
Are there any photos available, the only one's that i can see are the finish line and they are quite poor. I passed alot of camera men on route anyone know where theese pic's can me viewed.
Fantastic event and very well organised as far as I was concerned. I registered on the Friday evening and it was seamless, quickest registration I have had at any race in Ireland, UK or US. Numerous marshalls throughout the course directing and encouraging. Great facilities post race with the best food ever after a race in December - hot Clonakilty white pudding. Well done to the organisers and all invovled.
Added 2 photo galleries.
I did the mini marathon and enjoyed it. The delay at start was slightly annoying, but I came prepared with an old cotton t-shirt which I threw to one side just before start. Not surprisingly, the t-shirt was still there on my return.
The post-race refreshments were superb and the free technical top seems good.
It may be a good idea to require pre-registration in 2012, manually or on-line. Anybody competing in these events would accept the pre-entry requirement.
