Preview of the Castlemartyr 4 Mile Road Race - Thurs 22nd May 2010...
This race is seen by many as the first summer road race. Now that the evenings are getting longer, it's just bright enough for a 4 mile road race to start at 8pm and finish before it gets too dark.

This year, the race will be held in the village of Ballintotis which is just off the N25 road.

Getting there........
From Cork City, take the N25 east, past the roundabout by Midleton and eastwards towards Castlemartyr. After 2 miles, you come to ...suprise suprise...the Two Mile Inn! After that, you are looking for the turn off right for Ballintotis. If you drive as far as the lake then you've gone too far. Take the turn off at the sign post and Ballintotis is a few hundred metres up this road.

Parking and Entries....
Details in the previous post. Note that some people have commented on the entry fee of €10. Some may find this a bit expensive, some may not. At the end of the day, it's your choice.

The course......
As you can see from the map above, the race starts just east of Ballintotis and runs back towards the village. After that, it is on quiet country roads until it comes out onto the hard shoulder by Lough Aderra at 3.4 miles. The finish is back in the village again.

Looking at an Ordnance Survey map then it's looks like a reasonably flat fast course. With the quiet country roads and the fine weather, it should be a good one.

Start....8pm.

Great race well stewarded and plenty refreshments afterwards. If that wasnt value for money I dont know what was. Very fast course although the roads are narrow it didnt feel too congested. Looking forward to next year already.
