Results of the Bay Run Half-Marathon and 10k...Sun 15th May 2016

The annual Bay Run Half-Marathon in Bantry was held on Sunday the 15th of May 2016. As can be seen from the chart below, the numbers in the half were down 24% this year while the 10k numbers showed a bounce of 19%. The overall total was down 3% this year.

There were 183 in the half this year which is a long way from the nearly 1200 which turned up in 2011.

One of the most unusual features again this year is the numbr of women taking part in the 10k. At 69%, it's way higher than the usual 45% or so in most 10k races.

Results of the Bay Run Half-Marathon & 10k...Sun 3rd May 2015

The annual Bay Run Half-Marathon & 10k was held in Bantry on Sunday the 3rd of May 2015. It was always going to be interesting to see how numbers would go this year considering that it was no longer going head to head with the Great Railway Run in Carrigaline and the Bandon Half-Marathon & 10k.

In 2013, a total of 518 people did the Bay Run Half-Marathon. In 2014, the event was split between the half and a new 10k race with a combined total of 572, a 10% increase on the previous year despite the other two events in Bandon and Carrigaline being on the same Bank Holiday weekend.

The graph below shows the drop in numbers this year. The half is down 27% on 2014 while the 10k was down a smaller 8%.

Initially there was supposed to have been a full marathon as well but it had to be cancelled due to a lack of interest.

Bay Run Half-Marathon...€3000 donation to Bantry Hospice & post race interview

The Bay Run Half-Marathon takes place at the start of May every year on the Bank Holiday weekend. It was run by a commercial company for several years until they announced that the 2013 would be the last one. In 2014, it was taken over by the Maritime Hotel in Bantry from the old owners with the intention that any profits made would go to the local Bantry Hospice.

Back in late April of 2014 before the race, I had an interview on the website with James Cleary, race director of the Bay Run Half-Marathon & 10k in Bantry in West Cork.

In this follow up interview, I asked James some follow up questions about the 2014 race, the donation and some of the issues raised in the original interview.

1) ok James, first off lets look back at the 2014 Bay Run Half-Marathon & 10k. Some people complained afterwards about the car rally and the reckless antics of some of those drivers. Would you like to elaborate on that?..........Hi John, Thanks very much for the opportunity to chat again. We had a very successful year 1 but as with all events there is always room to improve – we did have a few comments mentioning the rally- in our defence we were informed by the rally director months in advance of the Bay Run events that the 10Km race would not be affected in anyway, yet their drivers and crew came booming towards runners and our event team. Some of them were very abusive towards our water station crews and we addressed this with them after the races. Having contacted the local rally representative we have been assured that the rally will not be using our route for the 10Km and we have assurances from them that their drivers will be more courteous towards other road users.

2) Now that you essentially have what is the first Bay Run Half for you under your belt as race director, what changes would you like to see happen? Is there anything that didn't work so well in 2014 and what will you change?...........I think we as a team pulled off a very enjoyable event and we have some phenomenally positive comments, feedback around Cork City and County was tremendous and we feel we have done enough to grow the event.

Some feedback given was on the below topics:
Water- there were comments on running out of water but we reviewed this and found it to be a minor issue- we didn’t run out; we did however have Powerbar branded cups available with both water and Powerbar energy drinks but people assumed that it was just energy drink and that we ran out of water we will have clear plastic cups as well as the bottled water for 2015.

Post event- We are investigating the cost of throwing on a spread of tea/ coffee, biscuits for after the race so there’s always room for improvement and we will always take on board people’s suggestions for due consideration.

Measurements: There were some comments about the course length; we have looked into this and after consultation with other event directors we will have all courses measured for next years event. This of course will be fully registered and measured with a Jones counter.

James Cleary (R) of the Maritime Hotel presenting a cheque for €3000 to the Bantry Hospice
3) In the previous interview, you mentioned that the Bay Run would raise funds for Bantry Hospice. I understand that a donation was made recently. Can you give me some details of that?...........Yes we were very pleased to be able to donate €3,000 to the hospice- see picture attached with Chairman Damien Moloney Bantry Hospice Receiving our cheque. It was a testament to all runners that took part and helped us raise valuable money for the Bantry Hospice but not only that; other charities benefited as well, Bru Colmbanus received cheques for various amounts all raised from runners on the Half Marathon & The Bay10Km; the Donal Walsh Live Life Foundation received donations and many more benefited from our events.

4) You also mentioned that you would publish a profit and loss account for the race so as to show where the funds are going. Can you show this?..........Absolutely - I’ve attached the P&L for the event year 1, the sole aim of the Bay Run events is to be as transparent as possible and hopefully people will recognise this gesture. Many other events throughout the country should provide a P&L for their events so people can see where the charity goes after covering the costs to run the events.

5) Now that the 2015 Bay Run Half-Marathon is just over 6 months away, what are your plans for it? Any big changes?..........Yes John, we announced our first ever Bay Marathon last month and we have 30 entries already so its going to be great to have Bantry’s first ever Marathon; there is a really good atmosphere around the town about the first marathon and it will allow us to raise more money for the Hospice thus providing a very good platform for other charities to benefit from people taking up the marathon challenge and helping their own charity that might be personal to them. I'd like to especially thank our sponsors Rowa Pharm., PowerBar, Red FM, O’Keeffe’s SuperValu Bantry and of course The Maritime Hotel & Leisure Club Maritime. Without their support the event wouldn’t exist.

Pleasure chatting with you as always John.

Interview with the organisers of the 2014 Bay Run Half-Marathon & 10k

The Bay Run Half-Marathon from Glengarriff to Bantry started in 2007 and has attracted a large number of runners to West Cork every year. In 2013, the previous organisers announced their intention to end the event but the Maritime Hotel in Bantry have now taken it over. To clarify what the current situation is with the Bay Run and what changes are being implemented, I asked the new organisers a series of questions. This is especially pertinent as it has now gone from being a commercial event to one raising funds for the local Bantry hospice.

Q. Hi James, as an introduction to the readers of the Running in Cork blog, can you tell them a small bit about yourself?
Certainly John but I hope this won't put them to sleep - well I’m 33 years of age, father of 2 girls and husband to beautiful wife Laura. I have worked in Leisure and hospitality for the past 10 years starting out in the Kingsley Hotel and working in other 4 / 5 star properties around Cork City and County. As a keen runner, I have run 2 marathons both sub 4hours; I have also run the Bay Run twice over the last number of years but due to knee injuries I've have had to change my focus of training to cycling / adventure racing and would be a competitive cyclist completing events like the Rebel Tour, Tour de Cure & Malin to Mizen in 3days as well as numerous other events such as Gaelforce West and Connemara Adventure races.

Q. The Bay Run Half-Marathon started in 2007 and has been held on the May Bank Holiday weekend ever since. Last year the original owners announced that the 2013 event was going to be the last one. Why did the Maritime Hotel take on the organising of the 2014 event?
Last year as pointed out by yourself John the event was finishing up and I felt having worked in Bantry for the last 7 years seeing what happens on a May Bank Holiday Weekend; I felt it would be an awful shame to see such a prolific event disappear. I took it upon myself to approach the owners of the event and see could a deal be brokered to take over the Bay Run and make it into something better and more transparent. In The Maritime Hotel we believe that having as many events on as possible it vital to the local economy and really losing an event as big as The Bay Run would have a negative impact on not just Bantry / Glengarriff but the entire West Cork hinterland.

The deal was brokered with the previous owners Edge of Europe ltd. and The Maritime Hotel took over the running of the event. Once this deal was completed we then set about making the event clear in its planning; we set up a limited charitable company called Bantry Bay Run Ltd and this company is a not for profit company raising money solely for charity. The Bantry Hospice was the first charity to mind as the previous July myself and a group of local cyclists took on Malin to Mizen in 3days and we raised €14,000 for the hospice; equally I had the honour of training and working with my bosses son Donal Walsh in 2012/2013; before Donal died he was cared for by the staff at Kerry Hospice; both hospices are run by the same doctors that looked after Donal before he passed away. Both Fionnbar & I felt that the true charity to drive for would be the Bantry Hospice. I approached the committee and explained that I wanted to run the event for them and with they’re support they were delighted to come on board.

Q. What does an event like the Bay Run mean to the towns of Bantry and Glengarriff? In terms of hotels, B&B's, pubs, restaurants, etc, what impact does it have on the towns during the first weekend in May every year?
The Bay Run typically is a big event here in Bantry and Glengarriff, it is a route that is challenging and a lot of people take it on for personal challenges as well as for raising money for an organisation that is close in hearts. The event itself can have an impact on the local economy as well bringing approx €40,000-€50,000 euro to the hotels, B&B’s pubs, supermarkets and local traders over the course of a weekend.

Q. The Bay Run has usually been associated with just the half-marathon. What's the idea behind the introduction of the 10k event?
You're correct the Bay Run has always been a half marathon and nothing more; but as an experienced coach I have trained people over the last number of years throughout Cork and West Cork I found that sometimes injuries get in the way; a shorter course can still be achievable for people. I did some market research into a 10Km event; I spoke with locals as well as athletic clubs around Cork which all ended with the same theme that a 10Km would be very well received. Some of the feedback from people was that the distance of a half marathon can really be off putting to some people who are only starting out so a 10Km is more achievable and leads to the possibility of them targeting their first half marathon the next year.

Q. The day before, you have a family 3k fun run. What's the idea behind it?
I have been working with different organisations over the last number of years and I also teach swim lessons; as a parent I cannot understand how children are becoming as big as they are getting. I see children these days around Bantry town, in Cork and they are getting significantly bigger and bigger. My nephew last summer ran off a pitch to be handed lucozade sport drinks, I was horrified and ultimately I feel the responsibility is on us as adults to lead from the front. The family fun run is just to show children how much fun and enjoyment is out there in the clear air. You throw Mum and Dad into the equation and you have the makings for a really great quality time as a family.  We have taken a lot of time to organise this event and we will be running it complete with Start / Finish blow up banner, marshals, barriers to give them the full race theme while keeping it fun and jovial. Each child will receive a High Vis vest to run in as well as a high vis back pack cover. There will be trampolines, and amusements plus face painters at the finish line as well as music to entertain everyone.

Q. In a lot of half-marathon and other events around the country, they have 'charity partners' which often just means that sponsorship cards are given out to participants. The charity partner for the 2014 Bay Run Half-Marathon is the Bantry Hospice. How exactly will they benefit from the proceeds of the Bay Run Half-Marathon & 10k?
Correct again John and given the article in social & print media recently I think it's only right that we have the chance now to fully show transparency. The Bay Run is a charity event, we are aiming to raise money for the Bantry Hospice. Should we make a profit year 1 then this will go to The Hospice. Obviously in order to maintain the limited charitable company set up a certain amount of funds have to be kept to maintain solvency but the lions share of profits will go to charity i.e. Bantry Hospice.
We lent a hand with regard to the sponsorship cards and will try to help the hospice generate as much revenue for their operations as is possible but once the event is finished we would be hoping to add to the sponsorship cards themselves.  This is obviously subject to numbers turning up for either the Half Marathon or 10 Km or 3Km Family Fun Run.
Once we have completed the events successfully then it is our aim to publish the profit and loss account into social media, print media and everywhere else. Should someone want a copy they need only ask. As it stands we have given copies of the current projected P&L complete with expenses to the hospice committee. I know having reviewed previous facebook comments, other media over the years; there has been serious negativity towards this event regarding price.
Price these days is so sensitive but we are basing our price on our costs and equally on what this event provides as well. In terms of the goodie bag we have worked tirelessly on putting together the best possible goodie bag so people feel that they are getting value for money, other events locally and throughout the country charge €30 for a half marathon and give nothing. We will be providing a Technical T-Shirt, full size moisturisers, food supplements, discount vouchers, spa samples along with many more. We have put a huge effort into the making the finish an experience as well where we have recruited the Angsana Spa therapists from The Brehon 4star hotel, Killarney to do the cool down massages which hasn’t been on the programme for the last number of years. We will have PowerBar at the finish line handing out recovery  protein shakes, there will be a BBQ for the spectators, music thanks to RED FM, we will have the bouncy castles, trampolines, merry go rounds etc available as well as the DJ from RED FM will have a box of spot prizes dedicated to the athletes families waiting at the finish line, prizes range from dinner vouchers, to spa vouchers and many more.
Having run the Bay Run myself I always felt that there wasn’t enough water stations as well so this year the Bay Run events will have an additional water station which is to be operated by PowerBar, this water station will give runners & walkers alike free gels, energy drinks to help them on their way.

Q. Looking ahead, what are your plans for the Bay Run Half-Marathon & 10k?
Looking ahead of year 1 - should we succeed in operating a profit to ensure the charitable company’s survival we will then push on and look to improve on year 1. We haven’t ruled anything out, a full marathon, those routes have been explored already by myself as well as the possibility of making it more fun & interesting like the last man standing concept hopefully we will do enough this year to make this event as good as we can; we can only be the best if we strive to be the best.

Thanks for your time John.

Tech tops & preview of the Bay Run Half-Marathon...

Just to follow up on an earlier post, the Bay Run Half-Marathon is coming up on Sunday the 4th of May. This might be of interest to anyone wanting to take a break in West Cork over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The organisers have sent on the artwork for the dry fit top which they plan to give out. See below...

Preview.....One of the changes made to the Bay Run Half this year is the finish. Instead of the usual finish down into the town of Bantry, it will take a loop out around the coast alongside the bay itself.

Event notice...Bay Run Half-Marathon and 10k - Sun 4th May 2014

The Bay Run half-marathon in Bantry in West Cork started back in 2007 and has been held on the May Bank Holiday weekend since. Last year, it was announced that the 2013 race would be the last one. The event itself has traditionally attracted large numbers of people to the town of Bantry that weekend and the loss of the race would have meant a big fall off in trade for local hotels, B&B's and businesses.

To keep the race going, the local Maritime Hotel in Bantry took over the organising of the event with the aim of continuing to attract people to the town for that weekend. As well as the usual half-marathon, they have also added a 10k and a family 3k run in order to widen the appeal. They also changed the end of the race to make it more attractive

In terms of location, it's a stunning spot for the race and it would probably ideally suit people that want a weekend away as Bantry is central to the Beara, Mizen and Sheeps Head peninsulas.

The half-marathon is slightly unusual in that it is a point to point event as opposed to a loop. Runners are taken by bus from the town of Bantry to the start line in Glengarriff. The route itself takes in a loop through some woods near Glengarriff and then heading towards the finish line in Bantry.

This parts of Ireland is of course well known for it's hills and mountains and this is relected in the course. There are a few pulls along the route but of course, the advantage of this is the scenic view....

The photo above shows Garnish Island nestled in Bantry Bay with the mountains of the Beara Peninsula in the background. Sugarloaf mounatin with it's sharp sides looks very impressive  from here. It's a stunning part of west Cork with some of the best views in Ireland.

It's probably not the fastest of courses but for anyone who wants to make it part of a long weekend away, it's hard to beat. Entry to the race includes bus transfer and a dry fit t-shirt. The 10k option uses most of the same route and has a bus transfer and dry fit top as well.

Race Report......This was actually the first time that I ran took part in this particular event. As a backdrop for a race, the scenery of West Cork is superb with views of Bantry Bay or the mountains of the Beara Peninsula never too far away. The race started in Glengarriff itself which was a hive of activity just before the 12 noon start. The road for the start was fairly wide and even with 800+ runners, there was no issue about finding a suitable spot. There was also plenty of space in the first half mile or so through the town to pass out slower runners and find a group that were at your speed. There was a slight uphill section through the woods but nothing too serious and it was followed by an easy downhill section back into the town. A relatively easy start to race.

The next section of the race after the 3 mile mark was a different story however. There was a long climb for about a mile out of Glengarriff which was especially testing. It's not that the gradient was particularly tough but running at pace uphill takes it toll. It was here that it was obvious that the groups that had formed earlier were beginning to fray. After a short flat section near mile 4, it was uphill again to around the 5 mile mark. From here, there were some great views out over Bantry Bay with the Sugarloaf prominent on the Beara Peninsula and Mount Gabriel clearly visible way off beyond the Sheeps Head Peninsula. From here, it was downhill and fast to about the 8 mile mark and then reasonably flat for the next mile.

The last section of the race was from about Ballylickey onwards, roughly the 9 mile mark. It was as we approached Bantry that the number of cars began to build up. I'd suspect that in reality, a 12 noon start for this race is too late. In previous years, it used to be 9am I believe which might be better from a traffic point of view but not great for anyone traveling down from the city. Something around 10:30am might make a better compromise?

The last few miles had it's share of short pulls but nothing too serious. There were signs out on the road around the 10 mile mark saying to stay on the footpath? I'm not sure if that was mainly directed at the walkers but for a road race and runners, it's completely unrealistic. In Bantry itself, the traffic was diverted away and there was a fine downhill section all of the way to the finish line. All very well done except for the finishing clock...it was out by around 90 seconds! Not that it mattered a huge amount as there was chip timing but it's not exactly rocket science to set the right time. So whoever was looking after the timing, no points on that score. If the clock at the finish line isn't accurate then there's no point in having one there.

Overall points taken from the event...
1) There is obviously a huge amount of work in organising an event like this, probably way more than most people realise.
2) Huge boost to the towns of Glengarriff and Bantry at a time I suspect would be very quiet otherwise.
3) Very weather dependent. Great when the sun is shining but a very exposed course when wet.
4) Too much traffic for a 12 noon start.
5) Tough course. Not one for setting personal best times but a very scenic location. Probably ideal for anyone who wanted to do it as say part of a weekend away.

In conclusion...If you have never done the Bay Run before then the notes above might give you some idea of what it's like. Having done the Maxi-Marathon in Killarney and the Dingle Marathon before, I found it to be very much like those in style. Considering that the race got 800+ runners on a day when the Limerick Marathon and Half-Marathon was on then it's an impressive number. I know that given the choice and having to travel to either from Cork City, I'd much prefer to be doing a Half-Marathon around Bantry Bay than running one on the streets of Limerick.

Preview of the Bay Run Half-Marathon - Sun 6th May 2012

The next big event locally is the Bay Run Half-Marathon in West Cork next Sunday, the 6th of May. Buses will take the runners from Bantry to Glengariff between 9:30am and 11:00am. The race starts at 12 noon. The walkers start at 11am. Everyone taking part should have got a full list of instructions by e-mail.

Late Entries.....The final closing date is Saturday, the 5th. The Bay Run website is HERE.

Course....

The race starts in the heart of Glengarriff near Eccles Hotel, a stunning spot with views out over the Bay. Before you head towards Bantry, you first need to do a 3 mile loop to the west.

There is a little pull at first and then it's through the town itself. Considering how small Glengarriff is, it doesn't take long and then it's right at the next junction...

Here is road is covered in Rhododendron as it turns and twists slowly uphill. Just after the 1 mile mark, you turn off left into the forest to do a short loop....
At first it's flat but you then climb steadily. At the end of this small loop, you rejoin the main road again around the 1.5 mile mark and then it's a fast mile or so downhill and back into Glengarriff.

After you pass the start line again, you begin the next stage of the race. From the town, the road climbs for about a mile until near the 4 mile mark and the local golf club where is eases off. After a while, the road begins to climb again until around the 5 mile mark where you have extensive views out over Bantry Bay...

Now you begin the downhill section until you approach sea level again around the 8 mile mark...
The next 1.5 miles are very pleasant as the road twists and turns as it follows the rugged coastline. There are a few minor pulls but nothing serious. At about 9.5 miles, you approach Ballylicky and the Ouvane Falls Hotel...

The third and final part of the course begins now as you head south towards Bantry. There are a few minor climbs but nothing major. You still get the occasional view of Bantry Bay as you move away from the coast...
As you progress towards the town of Bantry itself, the course slowly changes from rural to urban. Once you enter the town proper, the streets narrow and you will have a very fast section all the ways to the finish line in Wolfe Tone Square.

Overall, probably not a course for setting personal best times but once the weather is nice, it's a stunning location for a race.

Raising sponsorship for the Bay Run Half-Marathon....

For anyone interested in raising funds or running for a charity in the up and coming Bay Run Half-Marathon on the 6th of May, here is a message from the organisers...

Bay Run - Half Marathon is now in its 7th year and to date has helped raise in excess of EUR70,000 for local charities and organisations. On top of this amount many locals take part in the event in order to raise money for their chosen local charities which has proven invaluable to these organisations. Each year the water stations and finish line are marshaled by persons representing the various charities and organisations and each station receives EUR1000 directly from the event. Bay Run - Half Marathon has 5 stations that it contributes to annually. Clubs and societies that have benefitted through the years include: The Bantry Hospice Project, Co-Action, Glengarrif National School, Derrycreha National School (2nd water station annually), Bay Rovers FC, Atlantic Challenge and the National Training and Development Centre in Bantry. The organisers of Bay Run – Half Marathon have shown their commitment to the event by investing all surplus monies back into the half marathon each year and declared this is not a ‘for-profit’ event.

The sense of local involvement is reinforced by the local Bantry businesses that support the Bay Run, with chairman of the BBA Mr.Gearoid O Leary describing the Bay Run as a great kick start to a busy summer of festivals in Bantry in this particularly tough economic environment. The Mayor of Bantry Rory O’Callaghan, who will also be participating in the event, commented on the importance of the Bay Run as a great community event that encourages people to be active and healthy. He also welcomed the fact that the run brings significant business to the area early in the tourist season. This local encouragement for fitness can not be over stated with the growth of the Fit4Life group which now attracts 350 people and is catering for all levels of runners and walkers which will hope to participate in Bay Run ’12.

As Bay Run - Half Marathon continues to grow and be recognised by past participants by being voted as the best half marathon in Munster for 2011 on the Running in Cork blog, it has continued to increase its work with charities. This year the event is offering a 20% discount code to several national charities. Therefore anyone interested in taking part in Bay Run '12 and raising money for worthy causes can contact anyone of the following charities to avail of their discount:
MS Ireland
Irish Heart Foundation
Irish Cancer Society

If you represent a charity or know of a charity that would also like to work with Bay Run '12 please get in touch with Ronan by dropping an email to info@bayrun.ie. Bay Run '12 will take place on May 6th 2012 and you can enter via the website www.bayrun.ie. Each participant receives an Under Armour tech t-shirt, finishers medal and goodie bag.

Derval O'Rouke supports Bay Run '12 Half-Marathon...

Press release from the organisers of the Bay Run Half-Marathon...

In this Olympic year in which sports will dominate the agenda this summer, Derval O Rourke is delighted to support Bay Run '12 - Half Marathon in Bantry which will take place on May 6th. The Irish Olympic hopeful believes more and more people should be involved in sports at any level and the idea of challenging yourself to a half marathon which is set amongst some of the best scenery Ireland has to offer is a fantastic opportunity to test yourself at this distance.

Derval added, "we are now lucky in Ireland that the number of events and the level of participation has increased significantly in the last numbers of years. The Bay Run - Half Marathon was recently voted as the best half marathon in Munster in 2011, so this reflects on the level of organisation and management now expected at these events. I'm hoping that this year more people will be encouraged to get out there and challenge themselves and improve their fitness levels and overall health by taking part in such events.'

Follow Derval at the Olympics and prepare yourself for the summer of sport by setting yourself a challenge and registering for the Bay Run '12 - Half Marathon via the website   www.bayrun.ie

Race Notice...Bay Run Half-Marathon - Sun 6th May 2012

After the recent poll on this site for best road races in Munster in 2011, the Bay Run Half-Marathon in west Cork was voted as the best Half-Marathon. Coming just one month before the Cork City Marathon, it is ideally placed for anyone wanting to try a Half-Marathon as part of their training schedule and still leave plenty of time to recover.

Having started in 2007, the Bay Run Half-Marathon has grown steadily every year and in 2011, it had over 1,100 entrants. That's an impressive figure for what is essentially a rural event. When you factor in the number of friends and family as well, that's a big boost in visitor numbers to a town like Bantry, especially at a time when the tourist season proper hasn't really started.

Location.....The Bay Run Half-Marathon takes place in west Cork in the south-west of Ireland...

Entrants are taken by bus from the town of Bantry to the start line in Glengarriff. The route takes in a loop to the north west before returning to Glangarriff and heading towards the finish line in Bantry.

Entry to the race includes bus transfer and a t-shirt. The closing date is on the 30th of April. They will also take registrations the night before as well in the Maritime Hotel from 6-8pm if people are interested in registering late.

The race website is http://www.bayrun.ie

Results of the Bay Run Half-Marathon - Sun 1st May 2011

This Half-Marathon in Bantry in West Cork attracted a record field of just over 1200 this year which is well up on the previous figures of roughly 900, 900 and 800 for the last 3 years.

The winner of the mens race was local man Alan O'Shea of Bantry AC in a time of 72:46 on what is a hilly course.

The ladies race was won by Joyce Wolfe in a time of 86:54.

From what I hear, some of the issues like the baggage area which caused problems last year have been resolved and the event went smoothly. I also hear that the Raheny Shamrock Malin to Mizen Relay run went through at around the same time as the race.

Did you do this race? What did you think? Better than last year? Click on the Comment link below to leave your opinion.

Results......I notice that the official results are in Excel format which everyone may not have. So I have them HERE where you can see them without any special software.

Results of the Bay Run Half-Marathon - Sun 2nd May 2010...
There were about 900 runners in this Half-Marathon in West Cork between the towns of Glengarriff and Bantry. That's an impressive entry considering the recent controversy with the Cork AAI asking clubs not to support the event and the fact that there were 2 other major events elsewhere on the same day in the form of The Great Limerick Run Half and Full Marathon and the Wexford Half-Marathon.

So did you take part? What did you think of it? Was the entry fee worth it? Was it well organised?
