The annual Cork BHAA Dell EMC 4 mile road race was held in Ovens on Thursday the 13th of July 2017 and a total of 233 runners took part. With three races in Cork on the same night, 233 is a pretty decent turnout but it is still down 12% on last year.
As can be seen from the chart above, the numbers for this particular race have been in decline since 2014. From 2011 to 2014, it was at a higher level and peaked in 2014 with 463. In 2015, it took a big drop and it seems to be in decline since.
Looking back through the blog, I can see that 2015 was the year it changed from a 5k to a 4 mile race. It's hard to imagine that would be the reason for the big drop that year? I wouldn't have thought it would make much difference to most runners.

Wonder did the other races show the gain in comparison? Seemed to go without a hitch last night anyway. 3 seems a lot in one night, although this one was moved from the night before a few weeks back
