A new club has been formed in Ireland for those with an interest in running Marathons. A similar club already exists in the UK called the 100 Marathon Club which has several Irish members. Some of you may remember a post I had on the blog last June when local Corkman Michael Haydn successfully completed his 100th Marathon in the Cork City Marathon.
I should also mention that Jerry Forde from Blarney who many of you will have seen in the wheelchair section at many races is also a member and currently has completed in excess of 170 Marathons.
There was a time when there were very few Marathons in the country and you could count them on one hand. Recently however, there has been an explosion in the number of medium and long distance races as you can see from this up to date calendar HERE
With this new level of interest in Marathons now in Ireland, this new club has been set up. The entry requirements are that you must have run at least one Marathon and they offer awards for those completing 25, 50 and 100 Marathons. The website for the new club can be found HERE
Welcome to the Running in Cork blog, home of the Cork running community. This is the largest website in Cork & Munster for news on road races and general running news. Included are a current race calendar, race previews, photos, results as well as some local, national and international news items.
