Results of the Great Island 4 mile & 10 mile road race, Cobh - Sun 12th Apr 2014

The Great Island 10 mile road race was a big success this year with a boost in numbers due to the new 4 mile race. While the 10 mile race was down slightly from 568 in 2014 to 528 in 2015, the 237 that turned out for the 4 miler should have made a big difference to the money raised for charity.

Another factor today was the weather which wasn't great to start with. It may have turned off a few people but in reality, it was fine, just a small bit damp early on.

Still one of my favourite races in Cork. Easy sign-in, great atmosphere and a lovely cuppa at the end. Throw in the presence of Ireland Greatest femaale athlete, Sonia, in her home town and you can't go wrong.
Not an easy course but as the many signs pointed out its not easy battling cancer either.....
Well done to all concerned and hope the fundraising target was reached.

Love this race. Props to Ballymore AC and to Cobh in general for putting on the best 10 mile in Munster. A class event.

A lovely race for a fantastic cause. Good idea to add a 4 mile option. Well done to all the organisers for braving the elements. The cuppa after was so welcome to thaw out!

Will they be chip times for this race?

A great contender for best 10 mile race in Munster is the Sonny Murphy 10 mile race in Clare which was on today. Not many Cork athletes make the annual trip to Kilnaboy and I'd say very few Clare men would be following this running blog, as good as it is, but for prestige, history, a good course, plenty grub, and a good day out, very few races in the country of any distance would beat this race.

I totally agree with all the positive comments about this race. This race is a fantastic achievement by the organisers and is well worth supporting. Was also delighted to be in the company of such a legend as Sonia! Fair play to her for supporting such a worthy cause.

Excellent race! Well organised, fantastic cause, challenging and enjoyable course, plenty of water stations, encouraging support out on course, great spread of sandwiches upon completion and LOVELY cup of tea. Many Thanks. (any chance of a t-shirt????)

Great race, well done to everyone. I recored a PB yesterday that I wasnt expecting so happy out. The only point of criticism and this is to be taken very lightly is handing out water in cups is not a good idea. The amount of people spilling them or dropping the cup was huge at every water station. I would have thought a local business would have come on board with 250ml bottles of water. As I said it is only a small thing but overall it was well organised and enjoyable.
