Sports Ability Day...UCC Mardyke Arena...Sat 18th Apr 2015

From the Cork Sports Partnership.....Irish Olympians to visit Cork for SportsAbility Day.

John Treacy, CEO of the Irish Sports Council will accompany Orla Barry, Paralympic medalist in opening the activities at the event being held in the UCC Mardyke Arena on April 18th (12 to 3pm)

This event is organised by the Cork SportsAbility Forum and Cork Sports Partnership with the aim of creating awareness and promotion of sport for people with disabilities in Cork. It promises to be an action packed day with demonstrations and come & try sessions from a range of different sports including wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, amputee football, special yoga, table tennis and blind football to name just a few. Also on the day will be a variety of information stands from different disability sports clubs and organisations available in Cork. Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in come & try sessions in many different sports. This event is suitable for parents, people with disabilities, healthcare professionals, teachers, SNA’s, students, youth club leaders, sports coaches and anyone with an interest in promoting sport for people with disabilities. 

The Cork SportsAbility Forum are delighted to announce that there new Ambassador, Paralympic Medalist Orla Barry will be in attendance at this year’s event, along with CEO of the Irish Sports Council John Treacy, Minister Kathleen Lynch, Cork’s Lord Mayor  Mary Shields and the Mayor of County Cork Cllr Alan Coleman.

Activities will begin at 12 noon and continue until 3pm. Come along and be part of the movement to promote sport for people with disabilities. Admission is free of charge and parking is available at the Sacred Heart Parish Church, Western Road, Cork.
