On Wednesday the 17th of February 2016, the AIT International Grand Prix was held in the indoor sports arena in Athlone. As well as attracting some international athletes, some of the best Irish track athletes were also in action.

Video of IAAF International Cross Country race in Antrim...

This is the official race video for the IAAF International Cross Country in Antrim which was held on Saturday, the 12th of January 2013. The first half cover the womens race which Fionnuala Britton won with ease.

Video clips of the 2009 Dublin City Marathon...
Now that almost a week has passed since the Dublin City Marathon, a number of video clips have appeared.


The first video clip above was taken a few hundred metres after the start (...and I even managed to make an appearance in this one ;o)
When I arrived at the start of the race, it was obvious that the crowd was big but it was difficult to judge how big it was. By the time I had passed the point where the camera was (....~1:53 in the video), from my point of view, the road seemed to be packed with runners. It's only when the video clip gets to around 3:25 that you get to see the true scale of the Dublin Marathon. It's pretty amazing to that many people running together.


This 2nd short clip above shows a section which was just after O'Connell street I think?



This short clip above is near the 21 mile mark (~2h 31m mark).


...and again, another short clip at the 21 mile mark but this time around 2h 40m.

Video Clips of the Start of the 2009 Cork City Marathon...
Here is a clip of the start of the 2009 Cork City Marathon and Relay. It's easy to forget about exactly how many runners were at the start of the Marathon on Patrick's Street. It's amazing how long it takes for the whole field to pass through the start line.



The clip has a restricted view and the runners seen side on look a bit blurred.

Happy Days......Cork City Marathon 2008
Now for a treat! The organisers of the Cork City Marathon have put a nice 10 minute video of the 2008 Cork City Marathon up on YouTube. It's not just about the winners of the race but has shots from different sections of the race.

One thing you'll notice about it is how dull and overcast it was when the race was in Silversprings and how the sun was shining by the time some of the slower runners had reached Mahon......and you can see that the heat is beginning to take it's toll.

There are some nice shots of the finish as well........with a few of the 'well known' faces delighted at running their fastest Marathon ever.

More video clips from the 2008 Cork Half Marathon...
Another 7 video clips from the Cork Half Marathon are now up on the net. Again, they are taken near the 12 mile mark and roughly shows those who finished in 150th to 455th position. Note that you will need a fast Internet connection like broadband to watch these.

Clip Number 9.....(1m 06s long).....This piece shows those who finished roughly in 150th to 160th positions. The video clip ends with 2 ladies from West Waterford AC heading for the finish.

Clip Number 10.......(2m 08s long)........This clip shows those who finished roughly between 161st and 196th position. The poor video camera looks like it was getting a bit of a soaking but you can still make out the runners ok.

Clip Number 11.......(5m 20s long)..........This video clip shows those runners who finished roughly in 197th to 272nd position.

Clip Number 12.........(9m 11s long).........This is a long clip showing those who finished between 273rd and 380th place. In answer to the question at 0:24...yes, they are sisters!! Further on around 1:50, you can hear talking....lots of talking? Who can talk that much while they are running a half marathon? However, it turns out to be the Barr's girls going for a warm down in the opposite direction. Don't worry, they don't go too far. They re-appear in clip number 14 on the way back.....still running.......still talking ;o)
Still some bad driving though around 6:07.....instead of waiting behind a runner for the way ahead to clear, no......some clown decides to squeeze in between the runner and oncoming traffic.

Clip Number 13.........(1m 43s long)..........This shows runners in 381st to 399th position.

Clip Number 14.........(4m 03s long).........This clip shows those runners who finished 400th to 430th passing.

Clip Number 15..........(4m 38s long)........This clip shows those who finished roughly in 431st to 455th position. At 1:50, the cat is let out of the bag when we discover 'nearly there' is actually 'nearly there by car'!! You can just see all those runners getting around the next corner only to discover that the finish is nowhere in sight ;o)
At this stage of the race, the runners are beginning to get spaced out and the traffic seems to be going faster! Like around 3:49....some idiot driver decides to 'go for it' and nip in front of some runners just before the oncoming car arrives. Heaven forbid that they should be 10 seconds late. Would it really be that big a deal if the road was closed for say 3 hours???


Don't forget to get those entries for Cork to Cobh off to Kevin Cummins.

Clip No.2.........(42 seconds long)....This clip shows the 2nd man Colin Merritt passing. You might notice at the start of this clip the speed of the passing cars!! Heaven forbid that they might have to slow down for some runners. Looking at it, I'm kind of glad I was running in a group...safety in numbers and all that.

Clip No.3.........(1m 55s long)......It shows roughly the 3rd to the 9th finisher passing.
