Top 2 Bottom Malin to Mizen Run - 18th - 24th Nov 2019

Dave Galbraith is doing a run from Malin Head in Donegal to Mizen Head in West Cork in November of 2019.

Update: Sun 24th Nov ... Dave finally reached the end of his journey at Mizen Head. It looks as if the run from Malin Head to Mizen Head took just over 6 days!

To be more precise, it took 6 days, 9 hours and 12 minutes. The distance covered was 575.5 kms or 357.6 miles.

Update: Sat 23rd Nov 4pm... Friday was much better with Dave reaching Millstreet. Saturday is the long haul to Bantry.

Update: Fri 22nd Nov 9am... Dave had to stop in Bruff Co.Limerick on Thursday so is a bit behind schedule.

Update: Wed 20th Nov... Update on Dave's progress
Dave gets into Co. Cork tomorrow (Thursday 20th Nov) around 2:30 when he will cross the border outside of Kilmallock and head for Charleville and on to finish for the day in Mallow.

Then he will leave Mallow on Friday morning (Nov 21st) around 7am and head through Dromahane, Bweeng, Donoughmore, Rylane, Macroom, Inchigeela and on to Bantry where he will overnight in advance of the final push to Mizen head - a mere 42 kms from Bantry .

See below.

I'm doing a run from Malin Head to Mizen next month in aid of the Irish Cancer Society over the course of 5 and a half days.

Plan...

Day 1 - 18th Nov - Malin to Omagh
Day 2 - 19th Nov - Omagh to Longford
Day 3 - 20th Nov - Longford to Nenagh
Day 4 - 21st Nov - Nenagh to Mallow
Day 5 - 22nd Nov - Mallow to Bantry
Day 6 - 23rd Nov - Bantry to Mizen

My aim is to raise in the region of €10,000. If I complete the distance within my targeted time from I’ll be the 2nd fastest known time by an Irish person.

I did a coast to coast challenge 4 years ago from Galway to Dublin but this will be a step up (over double the distance).

Dave’s Top 2 Bottom Run Aims to Raise €10,000 for Irish Cancer Society
David Galbraith set to run from Malin to Mizen Head in November
Entire run is 550km in total across five days, thirteen counties and all four provinces
David is hoping to raise €10,000 for the Irish Cancer Society
Run takes place from Monday 18 th November until Saturday 23 rd November
If successful, he will achieve the 2 nd fastest known time by an Irish person to complete the
distance

David Galbraith is embarking upon a gruelling challenge which will see him run a staggering 550km
the length of Ireland. Starting off at Malin Head in Donegal, David will then make his way through
thirteen counties, including at least one in all four provinces before finishing at Mizen Head in Cork.

The run will take place from Monday 18th to Saturday 23rd November 2019 and David is hoping to raise €10,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.

The Irish Cancer Society is a charity dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem and
improving the lives of those who have the disease.

David has previously completed a long-distance event before, in 2014 having completed a coast to
coast challenge from Galway to Dublin. This will be a definite step up as it will be over double the
distance in the same time period to complete the challenge.

David has a strong background in running and was a member of Dunboyne AC in Co. Meath for over
eight years. For his challenge, David has been training six days a week clocking up weekly mileage in excess of 100miles per week. His marathon experience is significant having run 23 marathons to
date.

During his top 2 bottom challenge, David is encouraging people along the route to join him for
different sections and distances. He already has the support of several running clubs, businesses and
colleges along the route. David is also contacting Irish celebrities for promotional opportunities and
is confident he’ll secure at least one to run with him on one of the days.

Thanks John for keeping this on the blog.

We are looking for the runners in Cork to give Dave a dig out and support his effort when his feet touch down in Co. Cork.

From tomorrow Thursday we will be posting location updates on his progress on his facebook page (search facebook using the following tagline: dave's top 2 bottom run).
It would be fantastic if anyone along the route in Cork could help Dave along and run a few miles with him.

I'm hoping to join him and possibly run from Dromahane to Bweeng and maybe a bit more.
