Results & Photos of the Cork BHAA ESB 5k Cross County... Sun 6th Jan 2019

The conditions were nice and dry for the annual Cork BHAA ESB 5k Cross Country race in Beaumont Park in Cork City on Sun 6th of Jan 2019. A total of 193 runners turned out which is down slightly on the 199 last year.

Cross Country in general has had a pretty poor 12 months in Cork. The slight drop in the Cork BHAA numbers contrasts sharply with the cross country events organised by the County Athletics Board which all dropped in 2018, some by up to 20 to 30%. The Cork BHAA events as shown in the chart above seem to be holding their own.

1 Michael Harrington 0/45B M-1 17:21 Harrington Upvc Ltd
2 Darren Molloy 0/40A M-2 17:29 Navy M-A-1
3 Michael Buckley 0/40A M-3 18:03 Joyce Wolfe Physiotherapy
24 Breda Gaffney 0/45J F-1 20:47 Dept of Social Protection
28 Jennifer Goggin Walsh 0/35H F-2 21:15 Novartis F-A-1
40 Joan Ennis 0/50K F-3 21:55 Avondhu MF

Tough course but really enjoyed it. My first cross country race!

Thanks John for the bhaa calendar last week. When i saw the race, i said i'd give it a go as it was something new. Glad i did!

The dublin bhaa put on mainly cross country races throughout the autumn and winter, in fact over half their races in the calendar year are either cross country, trail & beach. Might this be worth looking into for the Cork bhaa if traffic management is a problem instead of putting on yet another 5km race?

The Cork BHAA used to hold a beach race in Redbarn near Youghal a few years back. It was a pretty good event but I think there might have been issues with it being too far from Cork City.

An enjoyable event even if it is torture running up the hill 3 times. Good test of stamina. Great support and it was a lovely morning for it. No slip sliding this year. A good start to 2019.
