Add in the new 5k parkrun starting in Mallow in 2019 and this weekly number is likely to grow to 700-900 per week.
A lot of the parkrun events may kind of go unnoticed under the radar so to speak but they are having a big impact on the running scene in Cork and the rest of the country.
According to parkrun Ireland, there are 84 events in Ireland with an average attendance of 101. That works out as an average of about 8,500 people per week doing free 5k parkruns in Ireland on a Saturday morning.

No parkrun would of course be possible without the volunteers who turn out every week.John Kissane has put together this chart showing the number of volunteers last Saturday.

If only there was another big park on the south side of the city that could hold a parkrun :)
Is a Parkrun feasible around the Marina?
Would be great to get Tramore Valley back up and running. Such a waste of a great resource.
Ref Marina... From what I understand, parkruns cannot be on public roads so they have to be on walkways, footpaths or trails.
A 5k route might be found if it went down the old railway line and back but it's narrow enough.
Park runs can be on public roads John. Bere Island is completely on public roads
With so many large Athletic clubs in East cork (midleton, Cobh, carrigtoohill, Aghada, youghal and east cork) its strange there are is no park there. Does anyone know if there is any talk of one in the future ?
Probably not because the isn't a park in the whole of East Cork area!!!
