Basic etiquette for runners...

Someone sent me the following message. If you're part of a group out running then it may well refer to your group! Something to consider.....

As a jogger, I have recently been pushed and shoved off a footpath and spat at whilst being passed by groups from athletics clubs!

It seems running clubs insist on taking up the whole footpath and treat it like a track for themselves. I wouldn't mind if there was one guy at the front of the pack shouting to inform the rest to pull left or right to avoid walkers/joggers and other users of public footpaths.

Anyhow, rant over! Just hoping to get the message out there to clubs somehow.

Some of these new breed runners need to take a step back , in fairness there's only a handful of elite runners in the city , the rest of us are realistically on a level field.
We were all joggers at some stage .

"spat at".. really! That's a disgrace!

Spat at? I have my doubts to be honest. I have been running around the streets of Cork city and county for 12 years and never experienced anything like that.

Never heard of that happening before.

Most people just say hello when they are passing or meeting some one. As a rule i find runners to be generally quiet sociable.

I know of one club where on a training run everybody waits behind at one point for the slower runner even if they are five minutes behind them.

I have run behind groups doing intervals on the straight road and when they finish they all stand across the entire footpath with no consideration for anyone else. Most runners on their own seem to be polite/friendly but when there's a large group some sort of pack mentality kicks in.
