The World 50km and 100k championships take place today in Doha in the Middle East and one of those representing Ireland is Orna Dilworth.
Orna is a 29 year old solicitor from Dublin and just took up running four years ago. Her first half-marathon was 2:05. In 2011, she ran the Connemara marathon in 4:28. From then on, she started training properly and she ran Dublin in 2011 in 3:53, Berlin in Sept 2012 in 3:12 and then Boston in April 2013 in 3:06. In Dublin in October of 2013, she broke the 3 hour barrier with a time of 2:57.
In February of 2014, she won the Irish 50k championships in a time of 3:43, inside the 3:50 standard for women for the world championships.
And now four years after she started out, she is today wearing an Irish singlet in Doha.
There is an interview with Orna up on the Score website.
