A total of 500 runners turned out for the inaugural John Buckley Sport Cork City 10 Miler on Sunday the 14th of September 2014. Organised by St.Finbarr's Athletic Club, this new 10 mile race replaced the old half-marathon in Blarney.
When it was announced back in July that it would be changing to a half-marathon, there was a mixed reaction. Just looking at the numbers, the record for the Blarney Half was 501 in 2012. The figure for the new 10 mile race almost matched that so there is no real drop.

A great run. Lovely route (pity about headwind off the harbours but....)Great organisation - thanks to all concerned. Hospitality after the run put many of the big commercial events to shame (e.g. Dingle, last week). Don't change anything next year.
Congrats to the organisers but why was the blarney half dropped?
What a fab morn and race. Tough wind on the walkway but then organisers could do nothing about that.
Im delighted we have a 10ML at this time of the year as a change from the many commercial half marathons.
Well done St Finbarrs. Please Please keep this fixture on the calendar.
Agree with comment about afterwards and was done with a smile and a laugh which does make the difference.
Thank you to anyone who helped in anyway today. This event can only grow.
Great event , very well Organised but very expensive! €25 is a lot and you would be expecting a medal at that price .
This was great race and well organised so well done! Are these results provisional as my time is incorrect
Great race. Thanks to all the organisers. I think it was a good idea to make it a10 miler instead of half marathon. I wouldn't be ready for half marathon distance yet and this was the perfect race distance to test myself on the way to it. It probably also helped with the numbers, bearing in mind the charleville and Dublin halfs are on next week. Anyhow brilliant course, hope to see it on the calendar again next year.
What a great, great race! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to next year! So well organised - well done to all involved.
Well done St.Finbarrs A.C. Well organised and executed perfect. marshalls were great and the course was indeed a pb course, even with that wind ! This is gonna be a mainstay on the racing year calendar I reckon . Drop the entry fee by a fiver and it'll be the no.1 race in Cork next year !
I see on the preview update of the race, they say that the first entry got no.1 and so on, so they could keep track of the numbers. The results page shows exactly 500 runners ( which is a nice round exact number ), but there were race bibs into the 6 & 7 hundreds out there today. Whats the story?
Congrats to the barrs for a well organised race. Was tough enough but a fair challenge. I think they got it right changing to a ten miler even tho a half marathon would have Suited my training better. The entry fee was also OK , but 20 euro might have Been fairer
No comaints overall tho.
Great course, pity about the wind after Blackrock Castle. Was impressed with the food, water, tea/coffee afterwards which was as good as bigger events. Also congrats to the organisers on having the results posted on the club house door within minutes of people finishing.
Great race by the Barr's crew who collectively appeared to everything with a smile on their faces! It certainly makes a difference. Super support out on the course and a fair course made slightly more difficult by such a strong headwind. Nonetheless a great addition to the calendar. Congrats all involved.
While I understand that the price may seem expensive, when you take the costs of putting on the race into account it is actually not possible to reduce the entry fee.
Prizes, technical t shirts, chip timing, charitable donation, water, catering, venue, portaloos, waste disposal etc mean it's hard enough to do it at the current price.
Fantastic day today. The stewards were so encouraging along the whole route. The spread afterwards was very generous. Well done to all at St Finbarr's club - ye should be very proud
Really well organised evert - congrats to all at St Finbarrs AC for putting on a great show. I think the entrance fee of €25 was well worth it - well marshalled, well watered and well fed afterwards!!
first ever 10 mile , was tough going. very well organised with great support along the course.
looking forward to doing it again next year
Hope this becomes an annual event, even a bi-annual!! Great to see another flat 10 miler in Cork. Nicely timed before XC season & DCM. Well done St. finbarr's. the support on course was just brilliant, you mightn't have been acknowledged but you were all heard & appreciated. Great route, headwind made it a challenge.
Great race, A BIG THANKS to all involved, great course, t-shirt, food after and all the stewards.
Any chance of exchanging a medium for a large in the t-shirts? Didn't try mine on til I got home! Nice design. Great race.
Absolutely perfect race in nearly every regard only for those cheeky selfish earphone wearers ignoring the stewards.
Great race just a little suggestion that the second 1/2 of the race could be run down the line then back up the marina which would avoid any headwind or better still have the wind pushing us on to the Finnish line.
Great race & plenty of encouragement from the stewards. Finished last few miles with severe IT band pain! Any tips on recovery?
