Results of the Midleton 5 Mile Road Race - Thurs 5th May 2011

Well, what can you say about Thursday? It started out miserable...rain, rain and more rain. Then it cleared up in the afternoon....the sun came out....and it was looking good for the race. However, it returned with a vengeance in the evening for the race itself. At least everyone got a free shower ;o)

The numbers were up again this year with 401 turning out, an increase of 72 on last year. A few short years ago, it was down around the 250 mark which at the time was a very good turnout. It just goes to show how the numbers have increased in the last few years.

The winner of the mens race was James McCarthy of East Cork AC who won in a time of 25:30, 15 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

The womens race was won by Rhona Lynch of Eagle AC in a time of 30:03.

The full results are now available HERE

Postscript...€800 from the proceeds of the race went to the local Midleton Meals On Wheels.

I ran with a friend of mine and and being a gent allowed her step over the line in front of me...!
There is 11 secs between our times.
We started together and I timed myself exactly. Neither of the 2 times are correct.

Dear Anonymous Gent,
rather than making comments that we cannot confirm or correct please give us the exact details of your statement
names, times, positions etc and we have been assured by our result providers Ballycotton Running Promotions that it will be thouroughly investigated and corrected if found to be wrong. It is rather unfair to the organisers and result providers to be making anonymous statements that cannot be verified. If you wish you can contact either organisation by e mail or phone but all spot checks on times etc have been thouroughly checked and so far found to be correct as per Ballycotton Running Promotions
