Olympic Marathon Champion dies in Kenya

Samuel Wanjiru, the existing Olympic Marathon champion has died in a fall from a balcony in his home town of Nyahururu in Kenya.

In 2008, he set a new record in the Beijing Olympics by winning the Marathon in a time of 2:06:32, taking almost 3 minutes off the old record set by Carlos Lopes in Los Angeles in 1984.

Very sad. We hear many stories about pro athletes who take their own lives because of persistent injury. I wonder what can be done to raise awareness of the issue of injury-related depression so that friends and loved ones can spot the danger signs? Maybe something can be done around the Olympics to do this.
