First off, a quick look at the number of entrants. Ignoring the places reserved for elite runners, there is a total entry of 3266 entrants. This compares to 3305 in 2010, 3315 in 2009 and 3087 in 2008. Considering the entry was restricted, I'm not sure you can read much into the figures but it might suggest that the number of club entries are down a fraction?
Looking at the number of men v women, it works out that 36.7% of the total are women. This represents a slight increase over last years figure of 36.3% (35.1% in 2009 and 33.4% in 2008)....Is it showing an increase in the number of women taking up running or is it just a statistical margin of error?
Looking at the entries from the various athletic clubs, Midleton AC take pride of place again with 116 entries. Eagle AC based in Cork City maintained their numbers with 95 runners while the other large Cork City club St.Finbarr's AC moved up into 2nd place with 108 entries. That is a huge jump from the 46 entries of just 2 years ago and is no doubt a reflection on the growth in numbers joining that club.
Another trend evident from the stats is the large drop off in entries coming from the clubs in Waterford. West Waterford AC have dropped from 87 to 41 in 4 years while Waterford AC have shown a similar drop. This is most likely due to the fact that the Dungarvan '10' race in west Waterford is now a hugely successful road race in it's own right and would be the highlight of the Spring for a lot of runners from the Deise......although there was no mug ;o)

It is great to see that there is a rise in entries from club members generally. Definitely a runner of any level is far better off within the support of a club. It is the best way of getting faster for all levels but possibly particularly slower runners and it is the best way of making little improvements for faster runners. Overall it makes it an even more pleasurable and maybe "easier" activity.
