The AAI Senior Cross Country Championships took place last Sunday the 13th of Feb 2011 in Kilnaboy, Co.Clare. It was a successful event for Cork runners with club and county teams taking Gold in both the ladies and mens races.
Senior Women 5 km.....In this event, Carmel Crowley of Bandon AC took off from the start and led the field to take 1st place with Niamh Roe of Eagle AC taking the bronze in 3rd. The Cork team won the title by a large margin with Eagle AC winning the club competition.
Senior Men 10 km....For this race, the weather conditions got very nasty with heavy rain. The 1st man home was Sean Hehir from Co.Clare with Sean McGrath and James McCarthy from East Cork AC taking silver and bronze respectively. Again, the Cork team won by a large margin with East Cork AC winning the team prize.
