Races this weekend....
This is one of the few quiet weekends in Cork with no races locally. There are however, 2 events in Kerry. On Saturday, there is a 10 k race in Killarney and on Sunday, there is an off road race near Castleisland. More details on the Runing in Munster website.
Derval O'Rourke...
On Thursday evening, Derval O'Rourke started off her indoor season by finishing a close second in the 60 metre hurdles in an international meeting in Linz in Austria. The winner on the night was the American Yvette Lewis in 8.11 seconds with Derval just behind in 8.16. She had won her heat earlier in the evening in 8.22 seconds.
From the Olympics Ireland website....."She has a best time of 7.84 seconds, clocked in 2006 when winning the World Indoor title in Moscow, but it’s still early season and she will be coming into championship form over the coming weeks.
After a spell of warm-weather training in South Africa, O’Rourke has more indoor races lined up in the coming weeks – intent on having a full indoor season, culminating with the European Indoor Championships in Paris, which take place from March 4th-6th. O’Rourke won bronze in Turin two years ago, in 7.97, and has gold in mind this time round."
For anyone interested, Derval has her own blog HERE
