The annual Route 2 Crook 5 mile road race was held on Sunday the 16th of August 2015 and a total of 98 runners took part. Despite the fact the weather could have been better, this was still up 3% on last year.

Notice...Route2Crook 5 mile race, West Cork - Sun 16th Aug 2015

This 5 mile road race in West Cork is coming up on Sunday the 16th of August 2015. In terms of location and scenery, this must be one of the most scenic in the country. Starting in Goleen, the 5 mile route runs along the coast and finishes in Crookhaven. On a sunny day, it is simply stunning.

From the organisers....This year is the 10th anniversary of the 'Route 2 Crook' 5 mile Road Race from Goleen - Crookhaven which will take place on Sunday 16th August with a new starting time of 11am and is organised by Mizen Rovers Underage GAA as a fundraiser for the club. Registration on the day at Goleen Community Sports Centre from 9.00am - 10.30am.

Main Runners  will start at 11am. Prizes for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd male & female plus prizes for all other categories. There will also be a prize for the 1st local male and 1st local female

Walkers  Starting time for  competitive walkers is 10am. There will be a prize for the 1st lady and 1st gent  to reach the finish line in Crookhaven. Start line is same as main race. Fun walkers are welcome to start when they have registered as in previous years. All walkers will be in for a chance to win spot prizes.

U16's will be bused from Goleen Community Sports Centre to their 2½ mile mark no later than 10.20am for 10.30am start.

Entry Fee ... RUNNERS - €10 ... WALKERS - €10 ... U16's - €5.

Water stations will be provided along the route. Refreshments will be provided to all participants at the finish in Nottage's. Presentation of medals etc will take place as soon as all participants have crossed the finish line.

Notice...Route2Crook 5 mile race - Sun 17th Aug 2014

This 5 mile road race in West Cork is coming up on Sunday the 17th of August. In terms of location and scenery, this must be one of the most scenic in the country. Starting in Goleen, the 5 mile route runs along the coast and finishes in Crookhaven. On a sunny day, it is simply stunning.

From the organisers....
1) Registration on the day in Goleen Community Centre from 12.30pm - 2.30pm. Entry fee is €10.
2) Race starts at 3pm.
3) Walkers start at 2pm - Entry fee €10.
U16 - 2 and half mile race, these will be bussed to their start line for a 2.30pm start. €5 Entry.
4) There will be transport provided to any runners who need to get back to Goleen after the race. Sometimes runners leave their cars in Crookhaven before the race and get a spin back to Goleen for the start of the race.
5) Refreshments are provided to all participants near the finish line in Nottage's (THE WELCOME INN)
6) Prizes will be presented (near the finish line) as soon as is possible after the race is over.

Results of the Route to Crook 5 mile road race...Sun 18th Aug 2013

A total of 99 people turned out for this years Route to Crook 5 mile road race from Goleen to Crookhaven in West Cork. Looking back through the blog at the results for the previous years, the numbers seem to be steadily declining.

From 147 in 2010, it was down to 137 in 2011, 112 in  2012 and now 99 this year. The reason? I suspect that a few years ago, it may have been the only race in the county over the weekend. Now, there are so many races and fun runs on the calendar that perhaps the more remote ones are losing out?

A field of 112 runners turned out for this year's Goleen to Crookhaven 5 mile road race in West Cork. The mens race was won by Cathal O'Donovan of St.Finbarr's AC in a time of 26:22. The womens race was won by Emma Murphy of St.Finbarr's AC in 33:15.

Results of the Route2Crook 5 mile race - Sun 7th Aug 2011

137 runners turned out for this 5 mile road race from Goleen to Crookhaven in West Cork. The mens race was won by Kevin Wilmot of Bandon AC in 27:33. The first woman home was Rosaleen MacKeown of Leevale AC in a time of 34:45.
