As can be seen from the chart above, the numbers are up 16% on last year.

Weather conditions  were almost perfect for this years Cork BHAA Janssen 5k road race in Little Island with blue skies and a gentle breeze. The numbers recovered to roughly 2011/2019 levels with 358 runners crossing the finish line.

Results of the Cork BHAA Janssen 5k - Sun 12th Feb 2023

The Cork BHAA Janssen 5k road race was held in Little Island on Sunday 12th February 2023 and attracted a field of 275 runners. This race has been a 6k for the last few years and it was changed to a 5k this year.

As can be seen from the chart above, there was a jump in numbers this year. I think 2020 was down to due to Storm Ciara. 2022 might have been wet as well. The numbers may not be back to the glory days of a few years ago but it's a recovery all the same.

Results of the Cork BHAA Janssen 6k road race - Sun 2nd Oct 2022

It was a lovely sunny morning for this years Cork BHAA Janssen 6k race in Little Island. This was in marked contrast to a few weeks back when it had to be cancelled due to the rain and an Orange weather warning.

A total of 160 runners took part which seems a bit low for a BHAA race, I was expecting more. Maybe people are busy training for the Dublin Marathon? Recovering from Charleville? Whatever the reason, I'm sure they're glad to get the 2022 race out of the way and I presume they'll be back in March of 2023 with their usual date.

Results of the Cork BHAA Janssen 6k race in Little Island...Sun 5th Feb 2017

The annual Cork BHAA Janssen 6k road race was held in Little Island on Sunday the 5th of February 2017. A total of 290 runners took part which is down 15% on the numbers for last year.

This years numbers were down 40% compared to the peak of 491 back in 2013 and is probably a reflection of the wider choice of races available today. The 5k parkrun in Ballincollig is attracting large numbers and well over 1000 runners from Cork traveled to Waterford for the annual Dungarvan 10 mile road race.

The Cork BHAA Janssen 6km race was held in Little Island on Sunday the 7th of February and attracted a field of 342 runners. That's down 23% on the 2015 figure of 441. The last BHAA race in January was down by a similar amount...i.e. 23%. Have we gone past the peak in race numbers?.....or was it just the damp morning? ...or too many races?... Clonakilty yesterday?

Results of the Cork BHAA Janssen 4 mile race - Sun 18th Mar 2012

A total of 217 runners turned out for this 4 mile road race in Little Island on Sunday, 18th of March 2012. That's down on last year's figure of 261 but that's no real suprise when you consider there were four races on this particular weekend. It says a lot of about how popular running has become when each of the shorter races can still get over 200 entrants each with over 1000 turning out on Monday for the Mallow '10' as well.

The winner of the Janssen 4 mile was Mark Hanrahan of John Buckley Sports in 19:04. The womens race was won by Laura Crowe of Novartis in 23:51.

This Cork BHAA 4 mile road race in Little Island attracted a good turnout in what were mild and sunny conditions. The mens race was won by Wieslaw Sosnowski in a time of 20:52 having won the 4 mile road race in Ballinhassig just 3 days earlier on St.Patricks Day. Just 6 seconds behind was John Meade in 20:58 with Danny Smith in 3rd place...a mere second behind in 20:59.

In the ladies section, Rhona Lynch was back in winning form taking 1st place in 23:56. Niamh Walsh was 2nd in 25:17 while Aisling Moran was 3rd in 26:05.
