Comment from Juan Miguel Estallo at Liberty Insurance:

“We are delighted to launch the first ever Liberty Race in Ireland.  Liberty is committed to greater equity, diversity and inclusion within society, and central to this commitment is greater support and allyship with our family and friends, colleagues and customers with functional disabilities.

“We are therefore proud to partner with IWA on this initiative and we are particularly excited to be able to call on the support of two Irish sporting heroes John Fulham and Natalya Coyle.

“While the race is in its infancy in an Irish context, it is entering its 14th year in Spain, with 6,000 people participating annually. Our ambition is to grow the race year on year and establish it as a much-anticipated fixture in the Irish sporting and running calendar.

“Finally, as we enter the winter months, the race represents the perfect motivation to stay motivated and active in the lead up to Christmas.”

Comment from John Fulham, four-time Irish Paralympian and former Paralympics Ireland President (2017 – 2021):

“Real inclusion is creating an environment and culture of equity, where everyone feels welcome and wants to participate, secure in the knowledge that people of all diverse background are allied together and celebrated.

“Irish Wheelchair Association is proud to be associated with the Liberty and the Liberty Race. What better way than a sporting event of celebrating inclusion and disability in a meaningful way. As a company, Liberty, like us, believes that inclusion is shown every day, not just in what you say, but what you do. This truly inclusive event shows a practical commitment and support to disabled people and the work of IWA, aligning with our core values and ethos of putting people first and at the heart of everything we do.”

Comment from Natalya Coyle, Modern Pentathlete and three-time Irish Olympian:

“I am delighted to support the first ever Liberty Race in Ireland and am proud to be associated with the event.

“Sport has always been a very important part of my life, and I am a huge believer in the power of sport to bring people together, make friends and allies and celebrate diversity.

I would encourage everyone, regardless of your ability, to run, walk or roll in the Liberty Race in December and be part of something exciting, welcoming and inclusive.”

Liberty’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Liberty employs approximately 2,000 people across its Irish, Spanish and Portuguese operations, all of whom work fully remote, in line with Liberty’s fully digital working model introduced in March 2020.  The insurer will be encouraging its entire staff to participate in the race.

As part of Liberty’s broader commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion, the company announced the creation of the DEI Council, an internal working group composed of elected employees, including CEO Juan Miguel Estallo, from which they work to guarantee diversity and equal opportunities for all its employees.
