This free 5k timed run is held on the Carrigaline to Crosshaven on the first Saturday of every month at 8:30am.
The start and finish point is at Kilnagleary car park which is at the start of the walkway. The route is dead flat and it follows the estuary of the Owenabue River.
As can be seen from the map, it's an out and back course.
The entrance to the car park is about 1.4 kms from the small roundabout at Lidl in Carrigaline (~0.85 miles). Car park entrance shown below...
This is a low key event and the numbers are usually small enough so that there is no overcrowding on the narrow walkway.
The monthly 5k is suitable for all abilities....
a) 5k speed session... It can be used as a speed training session. Same course every month so you can measure your progress.
b) 5k training run... Just a nice scenic casual 5k run alongside the estuary.
c) Beginners... Jog and walk the route. There is no pressure on times.
d) Walkers... For anyone who just wants a 5k walk on a Saturday morning for some exercise and fresh air.
