Cork County Council put up planning notice for Midleton to Youghal Greenway

Some good news! It looks as if Cork County Council are pushing ahead with their plans to develop the old railway between Midleton to Youghal into a Greenway. Following the success of the Waterford Greenway, there has been renewed interest in developing various routes around the country.

There will be no doubt some opposition from groups hoping to bring back the old railway line but the reality is that it is never likely to happen.

This also raises the long term possibility of linking up with the Waterford one and then maybe onto Rosslare.

The planning notice is below....

Excellent John

Wondering what distance will this route cover as looking at the map it's along pretty much a straight line?

I think it's just over a half-marathon... about 13.5 miles. As it is on an old railway line, it is pretty much dead flat.

There might be a nice opportunity there for someone thinking of setting up a café or bike hire stop in Midleton, Mogeely, Killeagh or Youghal.

Midleton is one of the furthest places away from a parkrun location in cork so hopefully this could kick start one
