Update on the 2014 Cork City Half-Marathon...

The Half-Marathon has been a major part of the Cork City Marathon for the last few years but it hasn't been without its problems. Moving one thousand plus people from the city centre out to the start point in Mahon was a logistical nightmare and it was always prone to something going wrong.

This year, there is going to be a major change with the start line near Kennedy Park, just a few hundred metres from the City Hall.

This is the approx route for the first 3 miles...

The half-marathon starts near Kennedy Park....left at the roundabout on Victoria Road....across a small road onto Albert Road...through the roundabout again...onto Monaghan Road...then down by the Atlantic Pond. At about 2 miles, it joins the Marathon course and follows the rest of that route.

Note....This is the approx route! I'll update later when I get more info...but it gives a good idea of where it will roughly start and go for the first two miles.

Seems like a much better option than getting across the city.

Much better route. Will there be timing mats at the start of the half?

Seems promising. Hopefully timing mats at the start

Like the new start but with Atlantic pond so early in the race are we going to have a bottleneck? Could be a few swimmers :)

Just to confirm that there will be a timing mat at the start line this year.

Also the Atlantic Pond is around the two mile mark. The field should be well stretched out at that stage. The narrow section on the walkway by the pond is short enough anyway so I don't think it will really be an issue.

Why are these races so expensive?

The race is expensive as its on closed roads in a city.

Awww and I really enjoyed fighting my way onto the bus last year. Oh well.

Will the number 2 bus be able to run from Blackrock on the day?

Any idea what time the half is due to start? Just wondering about impact of getting into town to start the half when the full is already on and running..
