Could it be that the womens numbers were down this year due to the ridiculously short distance of the womens race? 2km, only a quarter of the mens race of 5 miles? Do the organisers think that women are only capable of doing a quarter of what men can? If I was a woman why would I bother organising my evening around such a short distance?
its hard to follow a comment that contains the phrase "if I was a woman....". the womens distance is clearly too short and should be extended. the mens race was very tough with a challenging hill that had to be climbed four times. excellent event, lovely atmosphere and evening. well done to all involved in the organisation of the event
Don't think comments that begin with the word "if" is that hard to follow at all, simply stating my girlfriends view of the race/her reason not to do it.
Great evenings running on a lovely sunny evening.Really enjoyed it as the surface was brilliant and the atmosphere the same.Well done to the organisers.I recommend as many people as can should attend such an event and experience it for themselves instead of coming up with reasons from the couch on why they didnt turn up.
This seems like an old-fashioned throw back to the days when Men did 5000m, and Women did 3000m at Olympics and IAAF events.
But in this event, men do 8000m, and women only do 2000m.
Or when there was no womens marathon in the Olympics as they wouldnt have been able for it!
people complaining about the distances and i totally agree!!! but that doesnt take away from how challenging the course was... 1st time on the roads and i truely enjoyed it
It was a lovely race, lovely community & great catering. As a woman I found the course tough but enjoyed the speed session. Will pace myself better for that hill next year. Well done to all involved.
I agree that the women's race should be the same distance as the men's, particularly now that at County (when it takes place) and Munster level the women and men both run 4 miles.
