This was the first year of this Half-Marathon in Charleville in North Cork and it has got off to a great start with well in excess of 400 runners turning up for this race.
The mens race was won by Alan O'Shea of Bantry AC in time of 67:00, just over 30 seconds ahead of Vinney Mulvey from Raheny Shamrocks AC. That time was actually nearly 2 minutes faster than the Dublin Half-Marathon which was on the day before and had over 8,000 entries.
The winner of the womens race was Angela McCann of Clonmel AC making it two in a row in more than one way. Not only did Angela follow up on her win in the Cork Half-Marathon in Blarney a week earlier but she also ran in the Dublin Half on Saturday making it two Half-Marathons in two days!! Those Tipp women are tough cookies ;o)
Angela won the race today in 81:04 (Dublin = 80:21) and had a comfortable lead of over 2 minutes on the second woman home...Tracey Roche of Dooneen AC.

Well done to North Cork AC,great course nice and flat :)very well organised but that didn't surprise me considering it was my sixth race in this series and they were all very well organised,but of course a Half Marathon and a relay event is a different beast to organise and all the team deserve great credit for a very successful event.Running in North Cork is very much alive once again thanks to Michael Herlihy,he has being doing terrific work for athletics in that region and after a long Summer will look forward to the break i'm sure now :)once again a massive congrats on today North Cork AC a huge effort from a great team.
Congrats to North Cork A.C and Ballyhoura active series. todays event superbly organised. I would to make a suggestion for 2012,award 1st 2nd and 3rd in all veteran categories, its the vets have kept road running going over last 30years. These prizes are given in all races in Cork both Club and BHAA. Anon
Huge number of stewards out along the course today, a big thank you to all of them. This half marathon was definitely organised by runners who knew exactly what runners appreciate: bottled water, timing mat at halfway point, pacers, nice flat course, great spread of food afterwards. Well done to Michael Herlihy and all others involved- a tremendous success.

only two races in Cork that give 1,2,3 in all vets catagories are the Rising Sun race on St.Patricks Day and the Donoughmore race in July

A great race - obviously well planned & organised to a T. What were the prizes like ? Interested to hear how much the winners got, especially the age categories and teams.

Great race, true to description, fast and flat, lovely spread afterwards and very helpful volunteers, my 3rd half marathon this year and definitely the most enjoyable and well organised. See ye all there next year.
