Shanagarry & Newmarket races cancelled...

Due to the heavy snow that fell on Friday evening, the Shanagarry Christmas 5k on Saturday (19th Dec) and the Newmarket to Kanturk 5 Mile road race on Sunday (19th Dec) have been cancelled.

Ballycotton Running Promotions hope to hold their race now on Christmas Eve, Friday the 24th at 12:30pm.

The organisers of the Newmarket to Kanturk race will try and find a suitable date in the Spring of 2011 to hold theirs.

Weather outlook.......Looking at the European Infra-Red satellite photos, you can see that the cold polar winds from the North are currently passing over us and reaching down as far as the North coast of Spain. So, it's obvious that we are in the the middle of this cold air mass rather than on the edge with some mild weather off the coast. Met Eireann said the following....."The bitterly cold conditions will persist for the week and there are no signs of any mild weather."

Yeah - appears that the cold spell will last until Friday but Christmas Day looks like it will get milder but at a price...wet and windy as a new depression announces a return to more normal atlantic weather patterns.
