Online entries for the Clonakilty races close on the 27th of November

While many people will be focused on next week for the entries for the 2011 Ballycotton '10' event, it might be worth mentioning that the inaugral Clonakilty Marathon, Half-Marathon & mini-marathon fun run is coming up on the 11th of December.

As of about a week ago, the number of entries for the 3 races were roughly 130 for the full Marathon, 180 for the Half-Marathon and 130 for the mini. By the time we get to the day of the race, the numbers are likely to be something like 150-180 for the full Marathon?.......230-280 for the Half?.......and 150-200 for the mini?

The closing date for online entries is on the 27th of November. The current entry fees are....
Marathon.....€ 55
Half-Marathon......€45
mini-marathon/fun run......€25

After that, entries on the day will cost €65, €55 and €30 respectively.

You can find more details on the race website HERE while you can find more details about Clonakilty HERE.

Perhaps some people will find the prices a bit much but this coastal town in West Cork is in a really nice location. Weather permitting, the Marathon route extends as far south as the coast and the views are great. The key words here however are 'weather permitting'!! Fingers crossed...

45 for the Half is just too expensive guys. A lot of people I run with think the same. Pity it looks like a nice course. I might go down to support though , It will be a tough marathon with only 200+ runners !!!!
Any last minute price drop would probably fill my car with half runners ....

No John,
the key words are recession, paycuts, bailout, higher taxes, we can no longer afford nonsense pricing like that to run in a race. They should follow the lead of BHAA who dropped the price for Cork-Cobh, and BRP who charge half nothing for premium races. I can't attend these overpriced events anymore, my support is for above BHAA,BRP & Munster-Spring 10 mile events, people who charge reasonable rates

Waterford Half Marathon on the same day is half the price.Another "West Cork Rip Off"
also is it true that the 10Km is not really 10Km ???

The smaller race is advertised as a 'mini-marathon' rather than as a 10 km road race. It has been accurately measured to be 5.98 miles in lenght.

hay john can i leave my comment to say how sad it is and frankly once again how upsetting and annoying itis too see running organisations hiking up prices fourfold and more too leave the handful or more of athletes struggling to have what monies they have left too support poxy road races for others too gather their revenue in conpensation.. in times of recession bank bailouts and dodgy dealings even in sport and recreation the honest hard working joe soap is made to pay hard and ott for their pleasures..one thing is for sure john is that i will not be supporting this social event scenic views or whatever..being on the lowest paid scale is bad enough and with x.mas just around the corner this road race makes a mockery of everything that is good and just especially when i do like my sports and and athletics is one that i really love..my hard earned mimimum cash spread will not be injected too these fat cats pockets.. john keep up the hard work on your blogs. have a nice easy going x.mas..and keep up the good running you always give 100 per cent..john griffin grange.fermoy ac..

At the end of the day, it's a case of whether people are willing to pay the entry fee or not.

After all, if anyone thinks it is too expensive then they can stay away and there are plenty of other cheaper races to choose from.

Hi John, Thanks so much for updating people with regards to the marathon, half and mini in Clonakilty. Numbers are currently over 200 running the full, >450 running the half and >300 running the mini (which as you mentioned earlier is just under 6 miles). It is a little disheartening to see so many negative comments regarding the pricing. Us "fat cats" here in Clon won't be gaining financially from this marathon. Our hope is that we can pump whatever profits that come out of this year into an athletics club/running club for the community - if indeed there are any profits.Either way, Clonakilty will have a new club come January/February. We are very excited about the event on the 11th and we hope to run the full and half routes this weekend to kick start the buzz here in Clonakilty. Hopefully the reports after the race on Saturday week will be good and that everyone will get over the line safely. Any constructive feedback after the race would be much appreciated so that we may improve for next year. We are still taking postal registration until mid week next week and we will also accommodate people on the morning of the race. As it stands, we are amazed at the amount of local support from businesses, the gardai, and locals offering to steward and we are totally blown away by the amount of people out training. If we achieved nothing else by setting up this marathon, we have contributed to a more active community in Clon! Thanks for the feedback everyone.
