Results of the Coachford 5 mile race - Thurs 11th July 2019


Roughly 700 runners and walkers turned out for this years Coachford 5 mile race. In terms of runners, 487 crossed the finish line. This is a big jump of 36% on the figure for 2018.

Notice : Coachford 5 mile road race - Thurs 11th July 2019

The annual Coachford Autumn Festival 5 mile road race to the west of Cork City is coming up on Thursday the 11th of July 2019.



This should be particular interest to anyone west of the city as there aren't that many races in this particular area.

The entry fee is €12 online or €15 on the night. They will also be selling a limited number of t-shirts on the night for €10 extra. There is also a medal for all finishers.

From the organisers...*Registration in Coachford GAA Complex from 6pm. €15 Entry on the night , Chip Timing. Race Starting @ 8pm Sharp, Fully Stewarded. (Course measured with Jones Counter by Kevin Cummins)

Thursday the 11th July will again see the village of Coachford hosting top athletes and fun runners  from all over the  Cork and Munster region to take part in this award winning race .Voted best 5 mile road race in  2017 and again in 2018. This event is all part of the Coachford family festival hosted by Broomhill vintage club ,where all funds are directed to charity ,with over  €120,000 raised to date. 

This year we are supporting local man John Kennedy  who fell from a ladder on the 8th Oct 2018 and is now paralyzed from the waist down .This accident has been life altering for both John and his wife Ina and family .Please come out and support a great cause and have a great evening with family and friends  in Coachford.

Plus perpetual shield and a cash price of €100  for the club with the most people attending on the night walking or running


€15 on the day registration OR €12 online. All online registrations entered into a draw for a family pass to Ballyhass, Coachford. We will have some t-shirts on the night for you to purchase on a first come first served basis.

Coachford 5 mile voted best 5 mile race in Cork in 2017


Well done to the organsiers of the Coachford 5 mile road race which was voted the best 5 mile race in Cork in 2017. They certainly managed to get the numbers to edge out the Midleton 5 mile which finished in second place.

The Coachford race enjoyed a surge in numbers in 2017 when 271 runners turned out for the race, a jump of 39% on the 2016 figure.

A record 271 runners turned out for this years Coachford 5 mile road race, a huge jump of 39% on the 2016 numbers. Considering that there was a 4 mile Cork BHAA race in Ovens at the same time, that's a really impressive number.

Notice...Coachford 5 mile road race - Thurs 13th July 2017

The annual Coachford Autumn Festival 5 mile road race to the west of Cork City is coming up on Thursday the 13th of July 2017.

The entry fee is €10 and proceeds from the race go towards Marymount Hospice, CUH Childrens Unit and local charities.

Results of the Coachford 5 mile road race...Fri 19th Aug 2016

It looked as if the windy and wet weather conditions during the day might get the better of  the races in the evening but in the end, 195 turned out for the annual Coachford 5 mile road race. This compares to 226 last year.

Notice...Coachford 5 mile road race - Fri 19th Aug 2016

The annual Coachford Autumn Festival 5 mile road race to the west of Cork City is coming up on Friday the 19th of August 2016. Note the 7pm start.


This should be particular interest to anyone west of the city as there aren't that many races in this particular area.

The entry fee is €13 and proceeds from the race go towards Marymount Hospice.

From the organisers...We will have refreshments after the race including reps from Cully & Sully who will be handing out their famous soups. We also have  four students of massage therapy volunteering to do rubdowns after the race. Dressing rooms for changing as well as hot showers are also available. 

There are cash prizes for the first three male and female home.

The local Community are also using the occasion to honour Olive Loughnane in receiving her gold medal recently and they and others will be making  presentations to Olive after the race.

Results of the Coachford 5 mile road race...Fri 14th Aug 2015

Friday was an unusual evening for races in Cork in that there were two races within the Cork City catchment area going head to head with each other. In a sign of just how resilient the number of people running in Cork is, not only did the Coachford race attract 226 people but it was also up 5% on last year when it was the only race on near Cork City.

RTE interview with Cork based Racewalker Olive Loughnane

In this short video clip, Jacqui Hurley of RTE interviews Irish international racewalker Olive Loughnane who lives in Coachford in Cork.
Olive Loughnane won the silver medal in the 20km walk in the World Championships in Berlin in 2009 and is currently preparing for the 2011 World Championships in Daegu in South Korea in August.
