Notice : Cork BHAA John Buckley Sports 5k road race - Tues 21st May 2019

The annual John Buckley Sports 5k road race is one of the most popular races in Cork City and always attracts a large crowd. Organised in conjunction with the Cork BHAA, this race is suitable for all types of runner...from the serious to the more casual runner. The entry fee is only €5 for Cork BHAA registered runners or €10 for non-reg runners.

You can pre-enter this race by entering HERE

You can also enter on the night but it really helps if you pre-enter so that they can have everything ready.

Please note that the race HQ is at the LEE ROWING CLUB near the Pairc Ui Chaoimh stadium.

There will also be a draw for a free pair of NIKE Air Pegasus shoes for anyone who pre-enters!

Online entries will close around lunch time on Tuesday. Entries on the night close at 7:30pm so that they have time to input all the data.

New Course! ... There is a new 5k course this year and I think it's an improvement on the old one.

The old course was basically two laps of the Centre Park Road and Monaghan Road. With the new course, the race starts on the Marina...up Centre Park Road... back down Monaghan Road and the finish is at the side of Pairc Uí Chaoimh.

The new course should also cause less disruption as the start and finish points are no longer on the Centre Park Road. Once the runners go past, the Gardaí can open the road again.

In terms of times, there should be no difference. It's still a flat and fast 5k course.

20% Discount Vouchers......As per last year, John Buckley Sports will be giving out 20% discount to all finishers in the race. Just hang on to your race number and present it in the shop to avail of the 20% discount. It will apply to any purchases in their shop which is across from the Opera House in the heart of Cork City. Needless to say, the amount you save with the discount may well exceed the race entry so they are well worth getting. Note that the discount is not restricted to just one item. When you are using it, you can buy several products at the one time and get 20% off the lot. There is also no expiry date on the race number discount so you can use it anytime.

Chip Timing........For the last five years, they have been using chip timing at this race and it has been very successful. In previous years, there have been problems with too many runners finishing at the same time filling up the finishing chutes. With the introduction of chip timing, that problem has now been eliminated. All you need to do on the night is to cross the finish line....no queues.

You can also pre-enter at the John Buckley Sports shop which is across the river from the Opera House.

In addition to the chip timing, there will be the usual post race refreshments back at Lee Rowing Club afterwards.

Is the route the same as last years?

There is a new route from last year, it starts just up from the grotto by Blackrock village and goes down the Marina, down Centre park road and all the way up Monaghan road, past CAB motors and finishes in the car park at the back of Pairc ui Chaoimh.

This is a very very fast course!

Great to see a new course, this one looks much better. That's a very narrow start area though, will there be a timing mat there or just at the finish ?

Narrow start area will almost certainly be an issue..

How far is it from Lee Rowing Club to the start? (Note it is not Lee Boat Club!)

I'm from Wexford. Am registered with a running club. Can I travel down and run or is this only for Cork Athletic club runners
