One of the most dramatic images from the recent European Athletics Championships was that of Volha Mazuronak from Belarus who got a nose bleed about 30 minutes into the marathon race in Berlin.
While it looked serious early on, the bleeding eventually stopped and Mazuronak, who was fifth in the Rio Olympics, was able to clean her face with a sponge at a water station.
The drama wasn't over though as she lost her lead of about 10 metres near the finish line allowing French runner Clemence Calvin to draw level.
In the final strait however, Mazouronak kicked to put space between herself and the French athlete to win the race convincingly in a time of 2hr 26min 22sec.
