There was a huge turnout for this years Midleton 5 mile road race with 627 runners taking part. Last year, Midleton AC had their 50th anniversary so it was a special race with a special dry fit top on offer. I expected the numbers to be well down this year but they hardly dropped.
It's not like there is any huge growth in race numbers at the moment. Plenty of races are losing numbers but the Midleton race is still one of the most popular 5 mile road races in Cork.
In the men's race, Sean McGrath of East Cork AC took the victory. The photo below shows the leading group before the two mile mark.
Sean McGrath is #1255 while the 2nd man home Kenneth Kelleher is #493. Notice the runner further back and behind the group. That's Michael Corbett who probably ran at a more even pace and eventually finished third.
1 Sean MC GRATH (1255) East Cork AC 25:47 Senior Male (1)
2 Kenneth KELLEHER (493) East Cork AC 26:30 Senior Male (2)
3 Michael CORBETT (327) St.Finbarr's AC 26:33 O40 (1)
29 Fiona SANTRY (270) East Cork AC 30:04 Senior Women (1)
35 Andrea BICKERDIKE (340) Leevale AC 30:25 Senior Women (2)
40 Carmel Crowley (1303) Bandon AC 30:32 045 (1)

Extremely well organized as usual. Lovely route, and what a fantastic spread afterwards. Well done to everyone involved
fantastic race very well organised
Great race, very well organised and absolutely massive spread afterwards.
A race for runners organised by runners. This was blatantly clear to me as nothing was missed. Nice work Mid AC
Chap with same name as 2nd woman in that race, was a good runner early/mid 90,s wonder if any connection there
A big thank you from all at Midleton AC to every single runner who participated in our Midleton 5 Mile 2017. Our goal was to ensure every runner had a great race experience, so please feel free to email us at midleton5race@gmail.com to share what we did well and what we could do better next year.

Great having the results and photos online that night coupled with the great spread post race. Well done midleton ac.
Out of curiosity, why the rise in 84?

Second year doing the Midleton 5 and it's by far one of the best organised race. Even a moojo & banana at the finish line.
2018 is pencilled in. Well done all in Midleton AC
Re the query about the rise in 84 I presume you mean 85. That was at the height of the first "Running Boom" and also part of the Cork 800 celebrations. We had a special wooden trophy with the Cork 800 crest on it which was given to all participants so that helped attract the extra crowd. Danny McCarthy Midleton AC
Very well organised race my only fault with it is that clubs are not listed in the results. Whyask for AAI Club in the entry form and then not list it ?
Thanks for feedback on results showing without club information. The presentation format is dictated by the software and it is something we will try to recifty going forward. We ask for the clubs as we know people generally like to see that, plus we want to know ourselves. As such, the club information did go into the database, so we will try to extract it and present it an easy to read format. For now, if you click on the individual runner on the results in sportstiming.ie you will see it and there is also an option to filter by club. Thanks again, Eugene, Midleton AC
Her Dad Mark was a previous winner of this race when it was on a different course.
