Great event but should there not be age categories for classification. A male senior and male 60 times are not comparing like with like. Would age graded classification make more sense?

It should not all be about numbers taking part and age categories, there should be more emphasis on personal bests, season bests, records since graded meets began, and yearly records.

Same goes with road races, it is nice to see so many runners taking part but standard up front is so often not good enough. Average time of first ten runners in just about all road races here is disappointing - and more competitive running up front should be encouraged and awarded more.

The graded element of the races must be taken more seriously if the leagues are to maximise the kind of competition that is supportive of competitor development. As things stand this aspect of what is otherwise a very good venture is very poorly organised. WRT road races; there seems to be more interest in the money to be made from mass participation than in providing a competitive arena for the best of our local athletes. Well done to Limerick Marathon for making the effort this year to go against this trend.
