In contrast to last year, the weather conditions for this years Cheetah Run in Fota Wildlife Park were ideal....blue skies and sunshine. Maybe a little warm for running but the sunny weather showed off the park at its best.
Roughly 800 people took part in the race.

Remember, John Buckley Sports will give a 20% discount on production of your Cheetah Run Race number from Friday May 16th until Sat May 31st, i.e. for two weeks after the race. Well done to Eagle for a fantastic event, but can something please be done about headphone wearers? Why should people be allowed to blantently break the rules of a race and get away with it?
Yes, great race, very well organised. Just wondering why the food is so poor - a few sandwiches would have been appreciated instead of the biscuits.
Thank you once again for a fantastic, well organised race in beautiful surroundings.Started on time and the chip timing prevented delays at the end.As for the headphone wearers, I nearly ran over 2 of them as they weren't aware of their surroundings. I agree with Steve.
Regards the food....Basically the hall is too small and there are too many people. The priority is to put on a quality race in a unique location and to finish as early as possible so we can clean up in daylight. The objective of the race is not to feed 800 people.
Great race. Very well organised and a lovely setting. Coffee/tea and biscuits afterwards very much appreciated. Congratulations to Eagle AC on a fantastic event
It costs over € 4 to get a cup of tea and a plain scone in most SCs; here runners got a unique location, almost no queuing at the registration points, the race started on time, as much tea/biscuits as anyone wanted was available, the results were produced quickly and all for only € 10 !
Where would you get better value ?
Responding to Gearoid's question of where you would get better value, err the answer would be nearly every other race e.g. Ballintotis, Cloyne, Barryscourt Castle race, etc. It was €12 by the way not €10.
err...the answer would be that none of those races give a 20% off voucher or free entry to a wildlfe park for the runner, friends and family.
I don't generally use the vouchers as they're only handy if you have to get something. Otherwise, you're only spending money to get a discount! But they are better that not getting one I will agree. The Fota park is not that great in the evening when there is not much to see. A lot of people travelled there on their own without family so it's not as big an attraction as you might want to believe.
Having not eaten since 2pm that day, I'd have appreciated a few sandwiches much more than a vounher.
Anonymous, in fairness you can hardly expect sports clubs to act as a catering service to organise your own eating requirements !
Try a BHAA race in Dublin and you pay € 15 minimum !
And a lot of non club/non BHAA race organisers around Cork are charging a good more than €10 for 5/6 mile races. When I started racing a few years ago, it surprised me that organisers were providing refreshments at all. How many sports orgainsations provide refeshments after GAA, soccer, Rugby matches etc ?
I ate at 3:30 and didn't need a sandwich. In fact I didn't even need a cup of tea.
Jeez, all I'm saying is that the food was poor in comparison to all the other races. The race itself and the organisation was top class. Can't people take a bit of honest criticism without going on the attack ?
Have to add my complements to Eagle AC and the volunteers of this race. Very well organised and well run. Unique surroundings too, I had a kangaroo hopping alongside me for a little while!
Frim someone who travelled there on my own I lived the surroundings and all d animals running along with us. If you didn't notice any of that well god help u. As fir food it was grand n didn't expect too much as the club were busy taking down barriers and tape after d run to have it back to normal for next day. Well organised and no delays so well done n if you come hunfary well brinf packed lunch d next time and you'll be sorted:)
