The European Athletics website are currently holding a competition for European Athlete of the Month for the month of December 2011.
Details from the site......
The poll is situated in the Fan Zone of the European Athletics website and the public, media and a group of expert statisticians will cast their votes with each category counting as 33.3 percent of the vote. For example, the winner of each poll will be awarded 10 points, second 9 points, etc. and the athlete with the most points after the three different polls have been counted will be declared the winner. In the unlikely event of a tie, Hansjörg Wirz, the president of European Athletics, will have the casting vote. The voting will close on 18 January at noon CET. The European Athlete of the Month initiative was launched in January 2007 and is designed to recognise outstanding performers at all levels of the sport in Europe.
One of those nominated is Fionnuala Britton of Ireland who won the European Cross Country Championships in Slovenia back in December. If there was ever a more deserving winner then it must be her. Having finished 4th in the same event back in 2010, she has trained all year for this race and in the end, she won convincingly.
You can vote for Fionnuala Britton HERE. All you have to do is to click to vote, you don't need to register.
