A number of athletics related articles appeared in the Irish newspapers over the weekend.
In the Irish Independent, there was an article about the problems some athletes are having in getting funding from Athletics Ireland. They also had another piece on how the budget cuts to the Sports Council are having an impact on local clubs.
In the Irish Times, they had an article on Fionnuala Britton, her win in Edinburgh and what her future plans are. They also have another article written by Ian O'Riordan in which he gives an outline of what winning a major title like the European Cross Country Championships means. How it opens doors in terms of appearance fees, prizes and funding and makes it a lot easier for someone to be a full time athlete.
