I REMEMBER A TIME WHEN CLOSING DATES USED TOO BE AROUND VALENTINES DAY NOW IT SEEMS AS IF THE MONTH OF DECEMBER IS THE LATEST CLOSURE TIME R SOMEWHERE ALONG THOSE LINES..I WOULD LIKE TOO SEE THIS SYSTEM BROUGHT BACK AS IT GIVES A NUMEROUS AMOUNTS OF ATHLETES THE CHANCE TOO RUN EVEN IF THEY DONT ALL PARTAKE IN THE OVERALL TEN MILE SERIES..IN TURN ATHLETES WHO ARE LEFT OUT FROM REACHING THE FINAL NUMBERS QUOTA ARE NOT SURPRISED ANNOYED DISMAYED DISGUTED FROM BEING TURNED AWAY AS I WAS SOME YEARS AGO..I USED ALL OF THOSE WORDS ABOVE TO LET PEOPLE KNOW HOW I WAS FEELING..I ACTUALLY LEFT CORK THAT WEEKEND BECAUSE I KNEW THE RACE WAS ON AND IF I WASNT PART OF IT I DIDNT WANT TOO HANG AROUND AND DO MYSELF AN INJUSTICE..SO I ASK THE BALLYCOTTON RUNNING PERSONNEL MAYBE TOO CONSIDERING IN EXTENDING THE CLOSING DATE WELL AFTER THE NEW YEAR TOO GIVE MORE PEOPLE A CHANCE.. I KNOW IT MUST BE A MONUMENTAL HEADACHE TOO HAVE ALL THESE CONDITIONS IN PLACE BUT I KNOW ITS ONLY FOR ONE DAY IT ALSO GENERATES A LOT OF BUSINESS AND HOPEFULLY EXTRA CASH FOR THIS LOVELY BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE OF BALLYCOTTON..CAN PEOPLE PLEASE EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS AND SAY WHETER THIS IS A GOOD BAD OR TOTALLY INDIFFERENT VIEW POINT AS IM SURE OF HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS GRAET RACE..GOOD LUCK TOO ALL IN THE BALLYCOTTON RUNNING PROMOTIONS SET UP..JOHN GRIFFIN GRANGE FERMOY AC..

The big difference between now and say 10-15 years ago is the number of people who want to take part in the race.

The organizers can only handle a certain number of runners because of the narrow roads. The final entry date has gotten earlier every year in response to that demand so we have ended up with the situation where entries close in December.

It would be nice to have a longer entry period but there would be no point as the numbers are limited.

If they follow the same procedure as previous years then club runners will have 2 weeks to get their entries in which is more than enough.

when might the application forms be out to download?

Most likely in about 6 weeks time but nothing has been announced yet.

Is there any chance that all 10milers of the Spring series plus Villierstown could get together and come up with 1 entry for all races and you keep the same number for the 5 events. Split the money between the clubs and make it available to buy before Christmas. It would be great motivation heading into the new year.
If you don't run they get to keep the money anyway. That is how gym's and clubs make money. Why not our running clubs?

John I was reading a comment you left on the munster blogspot about entrants who return their timing chip if they can't run.

http://corkrunning.blogspot.com/2009/05/non-club-entries-for-2010-ballycotton.html

If you couldn't run the race in 2010 and returned your chip to the organisers do you know if you are guaranteed an entry into next years race or do you apply again?

I was reading post on another forum and people seemed to say no this wasn't the case because they gave out disposable timing chips this year.

Hi Aine

For the 2010 Ballycotton '10' race, they were using a disposable type of timing chip.

As such, there will be no special entry for anyone returning them.
