Road races in Cork over the next few days...

Over the next few days, there are 3 road races in Cork.

On Thursday evening the 5th of August, there is the Shanagarry Festival 5 km road race. This is a very low key event and usually attracts a small field. The race starts at 8pm and the entry fee is €3.

On Friday evening, there is a new 8 km road race in Mitchelsown. More info below.

On Sunday, there is the 5 mile Route to Crook road race in West Cork. I'll have more info about that one here on Friday.

Preview of the Galtee Runners 8 km road race........Fri 6th Aug 2010

This is a brand new race in Mitchelstown and is a welcome addition to the calendar of events. There are very few races in this part of the county and will hopefully attract a good turnout. With the new motorway, this race is only a 35-40 minute drive from Cork City.

More info below from the organisers....

The Galtee Runners are holding their first road race next friday August the 6th in Mitchelstown with a 8pm start. It's 8km in lenght, [AAI permit & accurately meassured] named GR8 KM [Galtee Runners 8 KM]  and  is the 5th race in the born again Ballyhoura  Active Summer Series. We are very much looking forward and prepared [thanks to series organiser Michael Herlihy and John Walshe Ballycotton Running Promotion for help and advice] to putting a great event for runners and walkers alike.

Mitchelstown been so central and easily to get to now, now that we a motorway passing our door, it promises to be a good opportunity for us and surrounding counties to pit there talent against each other.

Entries will be taken on the night at the St. Fanahans college hall [close to church] from 6pm - 7-45pm with an entry fee of 10 euro.

Directions.....
Simply head towards the town and whatever side you enter, just look for the 8km entry signs and they will lead you to the hall. Car parking is good in town with use of the St. Fanshans college car park and close by, the square and Dairygold car park on the Clonmel rd again will be well sign posted.

Route......
Starting and finishing on the Clonmel rd with approx 200m between them. The route has a  very good surface, left hand circuit, very flat with a quick feel to it except for a bit of a pull up through the town, leading past the Tesco entrance, [2nd half of the first mile] Once over, its plain sailing from there to the finish line.

All categories are catered for, all cash prizes including spot prizes

We are a new club and have great interest in and competing at all levels in races from the popular 5k's to the challenging marathons and looking forward to been hosts when road running comes to this neck of the woods on fri aug 6th.
