Athletics Ireland release club stats for June 2016
Athletics Ireland have just released the membership stats for all the athletic clubs in Ireland as of the end of June 2016. Things begin to slow down now for the rest of the year with pretty minor changes from month to month. These are the athletic clubs in Cork with more than 50 adult members...
Club (Seniors & Masters)...End of June 2016 (Change since May)
1. Ballymore Cobh AC 183 (+3)
2. Eagle AC 182 (+5)
3. Mallow AC 164 (+3)
4. St.Finbarrs AC 161 (+12)
5. Leevale AC 161 (+5)
6. Midleton AC 159 (0)
7. Youghal AC 157 (+5)
8. Ballintotis Fit4Life 149
9. Watergrasshill AC 131 (0)
10. Togher AC 130 (+2)
11. Dromahane Road Runners 104 (+3)
12. Bandon AC 94 (0)
13. Grange Fermoy AC 83 (+3)
14. Tracton AC 78 (0)
15. Clonakilty Runners AC 76 (0)
16. Aghada Running Club 76 (0)
17. St.Nicholas AC 65 (+2)
18. Rosscarbery Steam Runners AC 63 (+5)
19. North Cork AC 62 (+8)
20. Bantry AC 58 (+1)
21. Bweeng Trailblazers 56 (+1)
22. Galtee Runners AC 51 (+4)
23. Ballincollig AC 50 (+4)
In comparison to 12 months ago, there are a number of changes in those clubs with 80 or more adult members.
Some points...
1) Clubs with Fit4Life beginner programmes tend to have a large membership. There are plenty of smaller clubs that are more focused on other areas like track and field and the faster end of road running.
2) Adult membership tends to reflect the clubs active in road race. There are plenty of clubs with lots of juvenile members but the number of adults coaching them would be relatively small.
3) These stats are for clubs registered with Athletics Ireland. There are a growing number of small running clubs who are doing their own thing.
You can find the stats for May 2016 up on the Athletics Ireland website.

Entries for the 2008 Cork City Marathon & Relay.... Now that Ballycotton is out of the way, it might be time to start think about entering this years Cork City Marathon. You can enter up until the 9th of May. However, the entry fee gets more expensive, the later you leave it.
Monday, the 31st of March is the cut-off point for the cheapest entries. Hence this post here with 2 weeks notice.
The Entry Fees...
Before the 31st of March.....Marathon (Individual) = €50, Relay Event = €80 per team
Between the 1st of April and the 28th of April....Marathon = €60, Relay = €90
Between the 29th of April and the 9th of May....Marathon = €70, Relay = €100.
(Note that these fees are valid only if you post in your application. If you enter online, it will cost 10% extra...so, sod that ;o)
Full individual Marathon...
If you going to be doing the full 26.2 miles on your own, you should be well into your training programme at this stage. If you have your mind made up to do it, it makes sense to enter now rather than later.
Relay Event...
With this event, a team of 2,3,4 OR 5 can run different sections of the Marathon passing over to their team mate at designated changeover points. Each stage will be about 4 to 6 miles in lenght and there will be 5 sections. For example with a team of 3, Runner 1 can do sections 1&2, Runner 2 can do sections 3&4 and the 3rd runner completes the final section.
So, you have 2 weeks to get a team together and send in your entry at the cheap rate.
The application form for the Cork City Marathon & Relay can be found at this LINK.
You can find more information about the event on the Cork City Marathon Website.

Entry details for the 2008 Cork City Marathon & Relay are announced...The entry details for the 2008 Cork City Marathon & Relay have just gone up on their website. The costs are the same as they were for the 2007 event except that this time, they will have a staggered entry system whereby you pay more if you leave it too late.
So, some details...
2008 Marathon...If you enter before the 31st of March, the entry fee is €50, which is the same as it was in 2007. After that, you will have to pay extra. Enter between the 1st of April and the 28th of April and you will have to pay €60. Enter between the 29th of April and the 9th of May and it will cost you €70.
Relay Event...As with the 2007 event, there will be 5 stages and a relay team can be made up of 2 to 5 members. It will cost €80 to enter a relay team before the 31st of March. Entries between the 1st of April and the 28th of April will cost €90 and entries between the 29th of April and the 9th of May will cost €100.
The Cork Marathon and Relay takes place on Monday, the 2nd of June 2008. They have yet to confirm that the course will be the same as it was in 2007 but I'd be suprised if it changed much. If you are really eager ;o) , you can enter online now at this LINK. Note that all online entries cost 10% extra.
Seeing as how this event is still over 6 months away, there is still plenty of time. I'd guess that a lot people will want to do the Ballycotton 10 first at the start of March and then make up their mind if they are going to do it.
