This years Midleton 5-mile road race was held on a wet evening with 300 runners crossing the finish line. As can be seen from the chart above, that's down 18% on the 363 of 2022.
Post pandemic in 2022, nearly all races dropped in numbers with most showing an small increase in 2023 despite the new Athletics Ireland €2 levy for their one-day licence.
The present level of about 300 finishers is a big change from the 600 or so this race was getting back around 2016-2019. You'd have to back to 2009 since the numbers were down at this level.

Wouldnt read too much into the low turnout for this race in comparison to previous years as it was a miserable night, I had planned to do it but didn't.
Racing is gone too dear. It isnt just the 2euro levy for AI. Look at the number of club runners in this race. They have no extra levy but still did not support the race. There are too many races in proximity to Cork in a short space of time charging 15euro and upwards to run a short race. It isn't sustainable
