Looking ahead to the Cobh 10-mile - Sun 3rd April 2022

A quick look ahead to the Cobh 10 mile on Sunday. The forecast is for dry weather and broken sunshine with a light north-westerly breeze.

The biggest factor in the race is likely to be the heat especially in the second half of the race. Any sunshine at this time of year will feel warm and a lot of the course will be sheltered by the hills on the island.

I'd really recommend that you wear no more than a light singlet regardless of how cool it feels at the start line.

There are only two real hills to worry about... one after the two mile mark near Cuskinny and one before the four-mile mark near Ballymore.

Once you drop down the hill after the 5 mile mark, the course is sheltered and it will feel warm. Aftter mile 8, the wind will be to your back and this is where the temperature will feel very warm.

Here are some instructions from the organisers...

We just want to remind to everyone of a few important things;

RACE START TIME IS 10.30am ⏰

RACE HQ is Cobh Community Centre

There is no bag drop off facility this year and the HQ will not be open during or after the race.

We would suggest if you are leaving a jumper or jacket at the start line, just bring an old one. Once the race starts we will gather them all up and bring them to the finish line. 🧥

Please refer to our previous post regarding parking. 🚗

Weather permitting, we will do the prize presentations down at the finish line in the promenade.

We will only presenting 1st-4th Male & Female prizes on the day. All other age category prizes will be posted out early next week. 🏅

There will be no post race refreshments, each runner will receive a good bag after they cross the finish line. Local vendors are also offering discounts to runners in the promenade. 🌭☕️

The Red Cross will be present on the day. 🚑

There are portable toilets at the start and finish line. 🚽

Please can you be mindful of your rubbish during the race, do not throw empty bottles , gels etc on our roads or in our hedges etc.

Please do not wear headphones during the race and adhere to all race officials instructions. 🎧

We look forward to seeing you all in Cobh on Sunday and wish you all the very best of luck 🍀🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Thank you so much for this post. I wasn't sure what to wear as I planned to walk any uphill so I was worried I'd be cold. I followed your advice re singlet and very glad I did as would have roasted otherwise.
Thanks a million
Margaret
